This introductory technical diving programme develops the core skills, knowledge, and equipment handling required for future Tec-level training. Across two structured sessions, you’ll learn how to set up technical gear, refine trim and propulsion techniques, and apply foundational team procedures in both confined and open-water environments.
The programme begins with a detailed equipment workshop where you will set up twin cylinders, configure a wing-style BCD, and review regulator routing and isolation valve functions. You’ll learn how each component is designed to support redundancy, gas planning, and stability. Practical Applications One focuses on buoyancy checks, trim refinement, and propulsion efficiency, establishing a foundation that will carry into the in-water sessions.
Confined-water training introduces essential Tec-level procedures, including valve shutdown skills, primary-to-secondary regulator transitions, and coordinated team drills. You’ll practise maintaining stable positioning while performing tasks, learning how technical divers manage complex gear without disturbing the environment or losing control.
Open-water training expands on these skills at depths up to 24 metres. You’ll apply team protocols, conduct simulated emergency responses, and follow structured gas management planning under instructor supervision. By the end of the course, you will have a clear understanding of the discipline and precision required for technical diving, along with the confidence to continue into more advanced Tec programmes.
Sessions take place in confined-water sites ideal for practising new skills with unfamiliar equipment. These controlled environments offer predictable conditions that allow you to focus on technique rather than adapting to waves or current. You’ll have dedicated space for equipment setup, briefings, and between-session reviews.
Open-water dives are conducted at locations suited to technical training, with clear depth profiles, reliable visibility, and ease of entry. These sites allow you to apply team skills, perform controlled drills, and adopt proper positioning at depth. On-site facilities support efficient transitions between theory, gear preparation, and in-water practice.
Participants should hold an Enriched Air certification, which is essential for understanding gas composition and oxygen-related considerations in Tec diving. Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver certifications are not mandatory but strongly recommended, as they provide a solid foundation in navigation, buoyancy, and emergency skills.
Divers must be at least 15 years old and comfortable performing basic rescue manoeuvres and managing buoyancy in varied conditions. Completing the e-learning knowledge development before attending ensures you arrive prepared for practical sessions, enabling your instructor to focus on skill development and team procedures.
Training is delivered by experienced technical instructors who prioritise safety, clarity, and structured progression. You’ll benefit from a teaching approach that blends theory with hands-on experience, helping you understand not only how to perform skills but why each procedure matters in a technical diving context.
The learning environment is supportive and highly organised, reflecting a strong commitment to responsibility and professionalism. Facilities are clean and comfortable, equipment is well maintained, and the atmosphere encourages divers to build confidence through steady improvement. Whether you continue into higher Tec courses or simply want to strengthen your diving skills, this programme offers a meaningful step forward.
Tec Basics is an introductory programme designed to teach the essential skills, equipment configurations, and procedures used in technical diving. It provides a structured pathway between recreational diving and more advanced technical certifications.
The training emphasises equipment familiarity, buoyancy refinement, gas management, and basic team procedures. It prepares divers for more demanding Tec courses by building strong foundational skills.
The course runs across two sessions over two days, with each session lasting around three hours. This includes equipment rigging, confined-water drills, open-water exercises, and instructor-led reviews.
Divers who complete the e-learning in advance may find the in-person components more streamlined, allowing more time to focus on skill development. The overall time commitment is approximately six hours.
You will work with technical configurations such as twin cylinders, a wing-style BCD, long-hose regulators, and isolation valves. These setups introduce redundancy and improved trim capability compared with recreational systems.
Your instructor will guide you through assembly, equipment checks, and proper adjustment techniques. You will also learn how to maintain stability and control with the added weight and complexity of technical gear.
Yes. You’ll practise fundamental emergency skills such as gas shutdowns, regulator switching, and team communication during simulated incidents. These exercises build competence under pressure and reinforce the importance of redundancy.
The scenarios are controlled and closely supervised to ensure safety. They help develop the calm, systematic approach required for more advanced technical diving.
The maximum depth for this course is 24 metres. This depth provides an ideal environment for controlling trim, stability, and propulsion while applying team techniques and practising emergency procedures.
Remaining within this depth range allows divers to focus on technique rather than deeper environmental challenges, creating a solid base for further training.
You must hold an Enriched Air certification because the course includes oxygen exposure considerations relevant to technical diving. Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver qualifications are strongly recommended but not mandatory.
Divers must be at least 15 years old with at least ten logged dives. Experience with buoyancy control and basic self-rescue techniques helps ensure you can progress smoothly through the required skills.
Discover Tec is a single introductory session designed to give divers a taste of technical equipment and procedures. It focuses on exposure rather than development. Tec Basics, in contrast, provides structured training, formal skill development, and a clear pathway into Tec 40 and beyond.
Tec Basics also includes e-learning, practical applications, and both confined- and open-water dives, making it the first substantial step in the technical diving pathway.
Tec Basics is not a full technical diving certification, but it prepares you for courses such as Tec 40. It ensures you understand equipment configuration, trim, propulsion, and team procedures before attempting deeper or more complex training.
This foundational approach reduces skill overload later in the pathway and increases safety and confidence as you progress.
Bring swimwear, a towel, comfortable clothing, and any personal dive accessories you prefer. Sun protection, water, and light snacks are useful for surface intervals.
All technical diving equipment is provided. If you have your own mask, fins, or computer, you can bring them for familiarity, but they are not required.
The e-learning covers key concepts such as gas exposure limits, technical diving procedures, and equipment philosophy. Completing it beforehand ensures you enter the practical sessions well prepared.
During the in-person components, your instructor will reference the knowledge reviews and reinforce the concepts through hands-on drills. This blended approach ensures your understanding moves from theory to practical competence.
