Your experience begins in Sant Jaume d'Enveja, where you’ll be transferred to the start point in the riverside village of Balada, directly opposite Gracia Island. Before setting off, staff provide clear guidance on the route, paddling tips, and advice for kayaking safely with pets. Life jackets and paddles are issued, and time is given to get comfortable in the kayak before launching.
Once on the water, the route follows a peaceful stretch of river bordered by dense river forest. White willows, poplars and tamarinds line the banks, creating a sheltered environment where storks, kingfishers and grey herons are often spotted. Fish such as mullet, sea bass and gilt-head bream are commonly seen beneath the surface, especially in the shallower sections.
The paddle is short and manageable, making it ideal for families, dog owners, or anyone wanting a gentle introduction to kayaking in the Ebro Delta Natural Park. The route concludes at the jetty in Sant Jaume d'Enveja, where there’s time to relax by the water before heading off.
The route takes place along a quiet stretch of the River Ebro near the village of Balada, an area known for its mature riverside vegetation and calm water conditions. This part of the delta is sheltered from strong currents, making it well suited to relaxed paddling with children and pets.
Surrounding wetlands and riverbanks support a wide variety of birdlife throughout the year, while the flat landscape keeps the paddle steady and predictable. The finish point in Sant Jaume d'Enveja is easily accessible and close to riverside paths and local amenities.
No previous kayaking experience is required, as the route is short, flat and self-paced. Participants should feel comfortable sitting in a kayak for around an hour and be able to paddle independently or with a partner.

Careful route selection ensures this experience is calm, safe and genuinely suitable for pets, rather than simply allowing animals as an afterthought. Clear pre-route advice helps owners understand how to position pets comfortably and paddle confidently without rushing.
Equipment is checked and prepared before each departure, and local knowledge is shared to help paddlers spot wildlife while avoiding sensitive areas. The combination of flexibility, support and a pet-welcoming approach makes this route a popular choice for relaxed outdoor time together.
Yes, the calm water and short duration make it a good first kayaking experience for pets. The steady pace allows dogs to settle and get used to the movement of the kayak without feeling overwhelmed.
Owners are advised to introduce their dog gradually, keep them seated or lying down where possible, and bring a familiar blanket or mat to help them feel secure.
A pet life jacket is not included but is strongly recommended for safety, especially for dogs that are not confident swimmers. Even calm water can feel unfamiliar to animals.
Life jackets also make it easier to assist your pet back into the kayak if they decide to jump in or lose balance.
Double kayaks are often the most comfortable option when paddling with a dog, as they provide more space and stability.
Staff can advise on kayak selection before departure to ensure both paddler and pet are comfortable throughout the route.
