Sharing time on real rock is a brilliant way for families to enjoy something active together while learning and supporting one another. These sessions are shaped around your family, your children’s interests, and how confident everyone feels on the day. Whether it’s a first outdoor climb or building on indoor experience, everything is adapted to keep it enjoyable and inclusive.
The session begins at a carefully chosen climbing venue, selected to suit your family’s needs and the conditions on the day. After meeting up, everyone is fitted with equipment and introduced to the plan in a clear, relaxed way that works for both adults and children. Safety is explained simply and practically, helping everyone understand what’s happening without information overload.
Once climbing starts, the day flows at your pace. Some families prefer to focus on climbing as much as possible, keeping things playful and active with plenty of encouragement. Routes are chosen so children can feel successful while still being challenged, and adults are supported whether they’re climbing themselves or helping manage ropes from the ground.
For families with children who already climb indoors, the session can include more structured teaching. This might cover how outdoor climbing differs from the wall, how ropes and anchors work, and how parents can safely support their children. These days are about learning together, helping families build shared skills so they can climb outdoors with growing confidence.
Across County Donegal, climbing venues range from sheltered inland crags to coastal rock with space to move around and explore. The variety of locations allows each session to be matched carefully to your family’s confidence, fitness, and interests.
Exact venues are chosen close to the session date to ensure the best conditions. This flexibility keeps the day relaxed and allows time for breaks, questions, and simply enjoying being outside together.
No previous climbing experience is required for either children or adults. Sessions are adapted to suit different ages, confidence levels, and fitness, making them suitable for families completely new to climbing.
Everyone should be comfortable being outdoors and able to follow simple safety instructions. The pace and difficulty are always adjusted so nobody feels rushed or under pressure.
The centre specialises in family climbing days that put people first rather than following a fixed programme. Each session is shaped by the family, the weather, and how everyone feels on the day, allowing children and adults to enjoy climbing in a supportive environment.
With extensive experience working with young climbers and families, the approach focuses on clear communication and shared responsibility. This helps families build confidence together and enjoy climbing as a shared outdoor activity, not just a one-off experience.
There are no fixed age limits. Sessions are designed around what your children are comfortable with rather than their age, allowing everyone to take part in a way that suits them.
Activities, routes, and pacing are adjusted so younger children feel supported while older children can be more independent if they wish.
Parents are welcome to climb, but there’s no expectation to do so. Some enjoy climbing alongside their children, while others prefer to stay on the ground and support.
Both options work well, and the session is planned around what feels right for your family.
This is very common and completely fine. Keen climbers can do more climbing, while others can take things slowly or stop whenever they want.
The aim is for everyone to leave feeling positive, regardless of how much climbing they choose to do.
Yes, and it works particularly well for indoor climbers. Time can be spent explaining how outdoor climbing differs and how to stay safe on real rock.
Parents and children can learn together, helping families build shared understanding.
All safety systems are set up and managed throughout the session. Clear explanations are given so everyone understands what’s happening and why.
Routes and venues are chosen carefully to match the group and conditions.
Comfortable outdoor clothing, sturdy footwear, and layers for changing weather work best. Bringing water and snacks is recommended, especially for children.
All technical climbing equipment is provided.
Both are possible depending on conditions and what suits your family. Coastal venues offer space and atmosphere, while inland crags can be more sheltered.
The final choice is made with guidance to ensure the best experience.
