Arrive at Royal William Yard by sea aboard Bounty, then step ashore for lunch, coffee or a drink. The return is by boat too, so a simple meal on the waterfront becomes a proper little voyage.
Crossing Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, you'll close on Royal William Yard from the water with Conrad Humphreys or a member of the crew at the helm. Bounty is the replica launch from Channel 4's Mutiny, and one of the UK's most impressive historic waterfronts opens up as you near the shore. We keep the group to seven guests, so the crossing stays personal and unhurried. You can take the helm, trim the sails, or sit on deck and watch the naval architecture come into view.
Once we tie up, you step ashore for lunch, coffee or a drink among the Yard's historic buildings, then rejoin us for the sail home. At busy times it helps to reserve a table ahead, and we can help with a restaurant reservation if you'd like. The outing is about 3.5 hours, with Spinlock lifejackets and a safety briefing before we leave the pontoon. Routes flex with the weather and tide, but the shape of the day stays the same: a genuine sail, time ashore, and home across the Sound.
You'll find us at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth, with free parking on site, before we sail across to Royal William Yard. Exact directions and a what3words location are sent ahead of your trip. Please arrive in good time for your safety briefing and lifejacket fitting. Look for the grey container on the south-west coast path by the northern slipway, about 50m from Mount Batten Watersports Centre, and register your vehicle on arrival.
Royal William Yard sits on the waterfront across Plymouth Sound from Mount Batten, so arriving by sea is the memorable way to step ashore. You'll have crossed the National Marine Park to get there, with Drake's Island and the Hoe in the wider view as we work along the waterfront. The Yard is one of Britain's most impressive historic destinations from the water, and the pause ashore is built into the voyage rather than bolted on at the end.
You don't need any sailing background for this waterfront sail. Conrad or a member of the crew looks after Bounty while you take the helm, trim the sails or simply enjoy the crossing. A safety briefing and Spinlock lifejacket fitting happen on the pontoon so the start of the outing stays unhurried.
Children under 16 sail with a parent or guardian. Lifejackets for ages 8-16 are on board, and we can't take infants. If weather makes the crossing unsafe, we'll offer another date or a full refund rather than push on.
Arriving at Royal William Yard by sea is the whole point of this outing, not a quick add-on after a harbour hop. Conrad Humphreys skippers Bounty, the replica launch from Channel 4's Mutiny, so the approach to the historic waterfront feels like a proper voyage. You can steer if you like, or sit on deck and watch the Yard open up.
Time ashore for lunch, coffee or a drink is included, then we sail you home. Bounty is MCA Category 4 licensed for seven guests plus crew, which keeps the crossing personal. Every guest wears a Spinlock Deckvest, fitted before we leave Mount Batten.

Mount Batten, Plymouth
After 25 years of offshore racing and three trips round the world, Conrad Humphreys founded Bounty & Hope to offer premium sailing aboard Bounty, the replica launch from Channel 4's Mutiny, from Mount Batten inside Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Guests crew a small boat on open water, swap screens for sea air, and explore Drake's Island, the Tamar and Lynher rivers, and Cornwall's coast on hands-on voyages.
Conrad literally shows you the ropes and helps you get stuck in, as guest Josh Hoole put it. We sail where more than 1,000 marine species and historic wrecks lie under the keel, with Mount Edgcumbe, Royal William Yard and the Hoe on the horizon. Bounty is MCA Category 4 licensed for up to seven guests; Hope carries four. Two Red Paddleboards can be hired on selected experiences.
