Join us aboard Bounty, the replica launch from Channel 4's Mutiny, for a half-day or full-day sail through Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Conrad Humphreys, round-the-world yachtsman and your skipper, keeps the group small so you can take the helm, raise a sail, or simply watch Drake's Island and the forts slide past while the stories unfold.
Choose a half-day voyage and we circle Drake's Island from Mount Batten, with panoramic views across to Mount Edgcumbe and the Hoe, a refreshing pause at Cawsand Bay when the tide allows, and time to explore the stories of Breakwater and Bovisand Forts on the way home. It is hands-on sailing for a small group aboard a boat built for adventure: you can steer, trim the sails, or sit back while we thread through the UK's first National Marine Park, where more than a thousand species and centuries of shipwrecks lie under the keel. Dolphins, seals and seabirds often join the party; every sail feels like a wildlife encounter waiting to happen.
Book the full day and we stretch the same magic into the complete Sound experience: Mayflower Steps and Drake's Island, then north up the Tamar past the Royal Naval Dockyard and Brunel Bridge, south to Cawsand, and a proper lunch stop ashore at Royal William Yard or your own packed lunch if you prefer. The afternoon still has Breakwater and Bovisand forts before we return to Mount Batten. Conrad literally shows you the ropes and helps you get stuck in, sharing tales of the Bounty, Bligh and his own offshore miles while you sail.
Your morning starts at our boat club on the Mount Batten pontoon with a safety briefing and Spinlock lifejacket fitting before we cast off. Pick Friends and Family when you are booking for up to four people, or a private charter when you want Bounty to yourselves for up to seven; half-day and full-day lengths are chosen at booking so the crew can plan food stops and pacing. After that, the day is yours to crew as much or as little as you like while Conrad and the team handle the navigation.
We sail from Mount Batten inside Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, one of the UK's most historically rich and naturally beautiful marine environments. From the water you see Drake's Island, the Royal Citadel, Barn Pool where HMS Beagle anchored before Darwin's voyage, and the waterfront opening toward Royal William Yard and the Hoe. It is living history under sail, not a harbour hop with commentary bolted on.
Bounty & Hope is based at Mount Batten on the south coast of the Sound. Free parking is available at the centre; look for our boat club on the south-west coast path by the northern slipway, about 50 metres from Mount Batten Watersports Centre. Half-day and full-day routes both start here before we head out into open water.
You do not need any sailing experience. Conrad and the crew handle the navigation while you take the helm, raise the sails, or relax on deck. First-time sailors are very welcome on every voyage, and we fit Spinlock lifejackets before we leave the pontoon so everyone starts confident and comfortable.
Children aged 8 to 16 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian; we carry lifejackets to fit. We cannot accommodate infants on board. If you have mobility or accessibility needs, tell us when you book so we can plan boarding and seating ahead of time.
Bounty starred in Channel 4's Mutiny: she is the authentic replica of Captain Bligh's open launch, the vessel in which he made one of history's most extraordinary survival voyages across 3,600 miles of the Pacific. Every plank carries the weight of a real story, and Conrad, who skippered that televised voyage, knows how to make seven guests feel entirely at home on a historic wooden boat.
We keep groups to seven so the sailing stays personal, and every guest wears a Spinlock Deckvest, the same gold-standard kit trusted on the Vendee Globe and the Ocean Race. Bounty is MCA Category 4 licensed, with electric propulsion for calm days when we cruise in near-silence. That combination of history, hands-on sailing and proper kit is what we are built on.
We depart from the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth, with free parking on site. Exact directions and a what3words location are sent to you ahead of your trip. Please arrive in good time before departure for your safety briefing and lifejacket fitting.
Look for the grey container on the south-west coast path by the northern slipway, about 50m from Mount Batten Watersports Centre. Free parking on site: register your vehicle on arrival.
None at all. Conrad and the crew handle the navigation while you take the helm, raise the sails or simply relax on deck. First-time sailors are very welcome on every voyage aboard Bounty.
You will get a safety briefing and Spinlock lifejacket fitting before we leave the pontoon, and the crew stays with you throughout your time on Plymouth Sound.
Safety comes first on every voyage. If we need to postpone for any reason, we will contact you as soon as we can and offer another date that suits you.
If a revised date does not work, we will refund you in full. Our crew stays in touch through Adventuro chat or by phone so you are never left guessing on the morning of your trip.
Pack warm layers, soft-soled shoes such as trainers, a sun hat, sun cream, a water bottle and snacks. A changing robe is useful if you plan to swim during a stop ashore.
Spinlock lifejackets are provided for all guests. A little cash for refreshments during stops ashore is useful on longer sails, or you can add a packed lunch service on full-day sails when you book.
We meet at Bounty & Hope Boat Club on the Mount Batten waterfront, about 50 metres from Mount Batten Watersports Centre on the south-west coast path. Use What3Words ///safe.cloud.detail for the exact pontoon.
