Absolutely brilliant experience, would highly recommend to everyone!
Kieran was an organised, pleasant, knowledgeable and interesting tour guide. Also clearly, a very good kayaka. The only critique would be the size of the group. It was just too long to get everyone geared up and at the cave for all kayaks to go into and out. Otherwise a…
Great, good local knowledge, friendly instructor. Lots of wildlife and little adventures had. Recommend.
Amazing experience, would highly recommend to anyone!
Jose was very friendly and helpful! The bikes he provided were great for the price, and we enjoyed a unique gravel bike adventure in Spain. There were very few other companies offering gravel bike rentals. I would 100% recommend this adventure with Jose to any travelers in Spain looking to…
It was really enjoyable. I had never done kayaking before but after some short, simple clear instruction I was confidently making it way along the coastline. It was great to see things from the water you would've otherwise have been able to get a view of. I would definitely do…
Excellent day out with super efficient Kieran and Sam. Even a novice like me finally cracked the code to a good kayaking. The caves, guided tour on geological formations punctuated by marshmallow roasting and fossil hunting truly enhanced the overall experience. Would love to do it again. Plus - a…

This morning starts on Oddicombe while the bay is still quiet, with a short brief and a launch into Babbacombe as the sun lifts over the English Riviera. The paddle stays easy, looking into caves and along the cliff line before a beach stop for a fire and a hot drink. Seals sometimes fish close in at first light, and we watch from the boats rather than crowding them.
Check in in the dark or half-light, get a buoyancy aid fitted, and hear how the first hour on the water will run. Once everyone is settled, the guide leads a slow coastal loop, often into a cave or along the cliff foot when the sea is kind. The beach fire and hot drinks come after the first paddle, so you warm up as the light changes.
Typical starts sit around 06:00 in summer, shifting later as the season turns. We confirm the clock time when we approve your date. Come a few minutes early so kit does not eat into the quiet water before the beach gets busy.
Oddicombe sits on Babbacombe Bay, a sheltered cove with Blue Flag water and a sand launch that suits an early start. South-westerly wind is blocked here, so the bay often stays calmer than more open Torbay beaches at first light.
Caves and the cliff line sit close to the sand, which keeps the loop short enough for a sunrise outing. Changing rooms and lockers are at the base when we are operating. There is no parking on the beach, so most people use the cliff railway or walk down Beach Road.
No previous kayaking is needed. Be happy getting a little wet and able to follow a brief on the sand in low light. Children from 4 can join when they fit a buoyancy aid, and anyone under 18 paddles with a responsible adult.
Bring a warm layer for the beach stop, even in summer. A head torch or phone light helps on the path down. Mention any medical notes that affect an early start on the water when you send your request.
The outing is timed for first light, not squeezed into a busy afternoon slot. Guides on this coast know when the caves work at that hour and when to stay inside the bay if the swell is up.
Technical clothing is fitted before you launch, and the fire and hot drinks are part of the morning rather than an extra you have to arrange. The group stays together at an easy pace so mixed ages can share the same start.
Meet at Oddicombe Beach, Beach Road, Torquay, TQ1 3LB. There is no parking on the sand. The cliff railway from Babbacombe Downs is the usual way down, or walk the path from the road above.
Look for the watersports desk beside the slipway. Arrive a few minutes before the start so we can fit kit in low light without cutting into the paddle.
Typical starts sit around 06:00 in high summer, then shift later as sunrise moves. We confirm the clock time when we approve your date.
Come a few minutes early so kit in low light does not eat into the quiet first hour. The path down from the downs can still be dark.
About two and a half hours from check-in through to packing kit away, including a beach fire and hot drinks after the first paddle.
The loop stays short so you are on the water for the light, not chasing miles. Exact distance follows wind, tide and how the group is moving.
No. The guide coaches a forward stroke and how to stay with the group before you look at caves. First-timers share the same morning as people who already paddle a little.
Say if anyone is nervous so we can pair them in a tandem and keep the first minutes inside the bay.
Four, when the child fits a buoyancy aid. Anyone under 18 paddles with a responsible adult. Younger children usually share a tandem.
Tell us ages when you request a date so we put the right boats out. The pace stays with the slowest boat.
Oddicombe Beach, Beach Road, Torquay, TQ1 3LB. Walk down to the watersports desk beside the slipway. There is no parking on the sand.
The cliff railway from Babbacombe Downs is the usual way down. Allow extra time if you are driving in the dark, then come to the desk ready to change.
A kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid and technical clothing suited to a cool morning on the water. Everything is fitted on the sand before you launch.
Bring a warm layer for the beach stop even in summer. Leave phones in the car unless you have a case you are happy to get wet.
Yes. A beach fire and hot drinks are part of the morning after the first paddle, once the group has a quiet cove or stretch of sand.
That is not a full breakfast. Pack a snack if you want more than a drink while the light comes up.
Warm layers, a towel, old or wet shoes, and a light for the path down. Water and a snack help if you get hungry before you finish.
Sun cream is still useful once the light lifts. A hat that stays on in a light breeze is better than a loose cap.
We shorten the loop or stay inside the bay if wind or swell makes the planned caves unsafe at first light. Rain alone does not stop the outing.
We contact you as early as we can if the start has to move. Check messages the evening before if you are travelling a long way.
Seals sometimes fish close in at first light, and seabirds work the cliffs. We watch from the boats and keep our distance.
We never promise a sighting. The cave line and the light are the sure part of the morning; animals come when they come.
