A sea kayaking trip from Studland to Old Harry Rocks is an incredible way to explore Dorset’s famous chalk cliffs up close. Over the course of three hours, you’ll paddle through clear waters, weave around rock formations, and land on hidden beaches only accessible from the sea.
The adventure begins at Studland Bay, where you’ll get kitted out and briefed by your guide before heading onto the water. From here, you’ll paddle along the coastline towards Old Harry Rocks, a striking landmark formed from bright white chalk cliffs rising from the sea. Along the way, your guide will lead you through sea arches, past rocky outcrops, and into small caves, adding variety and challenge to the route.
As you continue, there will be chances to stop on secluded beaches that can only be reached by kayak. These pauses provide time to rest, enjoy the scenery, and take photos of the dramatic landscape. The trip blends activity and exploration, offering both a workout and the chance to experience Dorset’s coastline from a completely different perspective.
The kayaks used are sit-on-top doubles, which provide stability and allow participants of varying experience levels to enjoy the trip together. While some kayaking ability is required, the emphasis is on enjoyment and safety, with the guide supporting you throughout. For those looking to enhance the day, you can upgrade to a private sauna experience afterwards, a relaxing way to finish off your time on the water.
Studland Bay serves as the launch point, providing calm waters and an ideal starting spot for coastal adventures. It’s a popular destination thanks to its sandy beaches and sheltered setting, with easy access to facilities nearby.
From here, the route takes you east towards Old Harry Rocks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Jurassic Coast. The views of the chalk stacks and arches are spectacular, and seeing them from the water offers a perspective that can’t be matched from land.
Participants must be at least 12 years old and able to swim confidently in open water while wearing a buoyancy aid. The trip is suitable for those with some prior kayaking experience and a decent level of fitness, as it involves steady paddling over the full three hours.
Weight limits apply for the equipment: double kayaks have a maximum combined weight of 250 kg (550 lbs), while single kayaks are limited to 150 kg (330 lbs). These requirements ensure comfort and safety throughout the session.
The centre is committed to providing guided sea kayaking trips that combine adventure with safety. Every session is led by experienced instructors who know the local waters and can tailor the experience to your group’s ability.
With the added option of a private sauna package, the trip can be customised into a full-day activity. Whether you’re visiting Dorset for the first time or seeking a new way to experience its coastline, this is a memorable choice for groups.
Intermediate kayaking skills and good fitness levels are necessary to enjoy this adventure.
