Freshwater West is the usual summer hire beach for a surfboard, bodyboard or wetsuit, with Manorbier used when that stretch suits the day. Hire is for people who already understand the basics of the board they take out. A short safety brief comes with the kit.
Show a form of ID at the hire point, then hear a short brief on the day's swell, wind and where you can paddle out. We match a soft-top, a stiffer board or a bodyboard to your size and how the beach is working.
Hire only runs when the beach is suitable. Anyone under 18 needs an adult responsible for the booking. Leave the kit where we ask you to at the end of the session. Give yourself 15 minutes at the van.
Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, is the usual summer base at Freshwater West. Manorbier is used when that beach suits the day. Both have a car park close to the sand.
Parking fills early in summer, so leave extra time. We confirm the pick-up if the planned beach cannot run. Stay on the beach we hire from rather than driving the kit to another stretch.
Independent hire is for people who already understand the basics of the board they take out. An adult over 18 must complete the safety disclaimer and leave a valid ID as a deposit.
Anyone under 18 needs that adult on the beach. Bring swimwear, a towel and a warm layer. Tell us if you need a wetsuit so we can have sizes ready.
The hire van sits on the sand, so you are not carrying a board from town. We follow the RNLI Surf Hire Safety Scheme, check the kit, and give a brief that matches the day's swell and wind.
Soft-tops, stiffer boards and bodyboards are there. The brief is short, then the rest of the session is yours in the water.
July and August pick-up is Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW. Manorbier is used when that beach suits the day. Park in the beach car park and walk to the hire point on the sand.
Give yourself 15 minutes at the van so the brief and the ID check do not eat into your water time.
Two hours or a full day from 9am to 5pm. Bodyboards, surfboards and wetsuits can be hired on their own or together. We match the board to your size and how the beach is working that day.
Give yourself 15 minutes at the hire point so the ID check and the brief do not eat into your water time. July and August hire sits at Freshwater West.
Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, or Manorbier. In July and August we are on Freshwater West. Early and late season we also use Manorbier when that beach suits the day.
Park in the beach car park and walk to the hire point on the sand. We confirm the pick-up if the planned beach cannot run.
Soft-top boards for first independent sessions, stiffer boards if you already surf, bodyboards, and full-length wetsuits. We match the craft when you arrive rather than asking you to guess online.
A short brief covers the day's swell, rip and where you can paddle out. Leave phones and bags in the car.
Hire is for people who already understand the basics of the board they take out. We still give a short brief on the day's beach, but we are not coaching a first pop-up on the sand.
If you have only stood up once, say so when you collect. We would rather put you on a bigger soft-top close to the white water than send you onto a peak you cannot read.
An adult over 18 must complete the disclaimer and leave ID. Anyone under 18 needs that adult responsible for the hire. Children should already be happy in the sea on the craft you take out.
Tell us ages and heights so we can put the right boards out. An adult needs to stay on the beach while children are in the water.
Ordinary rain does not stop hire. We hold or move the slot when swell or wind makes the beach unsafe, or if we cannot run from the planned spot.
Check your messages before you travel. Safety comes first, and we would rather wait for a usable window than send you out on a closed beach.
Swimwear, a towel, a warm dry layer, sunscreen, and a valid ID for the deposit. A water bottle helps. Get changed before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.
Flip-flops are useful for the walk from the car. Leave valuables in the car. Pack a bag for wet swimwear afterwards.
A driving licence, passport or debit or credit card, left as a deposit while the kit is out. An adult over 18 must complete the safety disclaimer before anyone goes in.
We return the ID when the kit comes back in the same condition. Keep the brief in mind and stay in the area we mark out for that day's tide.
Yes, on its own or with a board. We fit a full-length suit on the sand. Your own suit is fine if you only need a board.
Tell us sizes in advance so we can have suits ready. Boots help from autumn through spring. Shorties are thin for this beach outside midsummer.
We follow the RNLI Surf Hire Safety Scheme. Kit is checked, and you hear a short brief on the day's swell, wind and rips before you walk down.
Stay inside the area we mark out. If you are unsure about a rip or a peak, ask before you paddle out rather than guessing from the car park.
