What is the Lead Improver course?

The Lead Improver course is a coaching session designed to help climbers who have completed the Learn to Lead course or have equivalent experience. It focuses on refining lead climbing skills, such as efficient movement, advanced belaying, and techniques for steep walls. The session is tailored to meet your specific needs and aims to build confidence for those ready to progress further in lead climbing.

How long is the session?

Each session lasts for one hour. This allows for focused, personalised coaching to help you improve your lead climbing abilities. You’ll have one-to-one guidance throughout the session, ensuring your progress is maximised.

What level of experience do I need to take part in the session?

To participate in the Lead Improver course, you should have already completed a Learn to Lead course or have equivalent experience in lead climbing. This means you should be comfortable climbing on top rope, have basic belaying knowledge, and be familiar with the fundamentals of lead climbing. To book a Learn to Lead session instead, please see the details below among our other sessions.

Do I need to bring my own climbing gear?

The necessary climbing equipment, such as ropes, harnesses, and helmets, will be provided for the session. However, if you prefer to use your own gear, feel free to bring it along. Personal climbing shoes are not included, so you should either bring your own or hire them at the centre if needed.

What can I expect to learn during the session?

During the session, you’ll improve your climbing technique with a focus on efficient movement, especially on steep walls. You’ll also receive instruction on advanced belaying skills and how to handle and take lead falls. The session is tailored to your specific needs and can include other topics that you want to work on.
