Serra Malagueta and Tarrafal sit in one 7-hour day from Praia: an easy park walk at about 850 metres, then a swim on white sand. Hotel pickup, the inland drive and the late-afternoon return sit around the trail and the beach. Bring the park entrance fee and money for lunch by the sea.
The inland drive from Praia passes the traditional Assomada Market on the way to Serra Malagueta Natural Park. The trail starts around 850 metres in a 774-hectare reserve with more than 124 plant species and 19 bird species, many found only here. Commentary on endemic plants, birds and local communities runs on a scenic park path, then you retrace your steps to the waiting vehicle. The walk is easy; the day is long because of the transfers and the beach, not because the trail is steep.
Tarrafal Beach is the second setting, with white sand, hills and palm trees, for a swim and a lunch stop you pay for yourself. After time under the palms the drive south returns you to the same hotel in the late afternoon. Comfortable shoes, flip-flops, a towel, swimwear, sunscreen and the park entrance fee are what you need for that contrast of mountain and sea.
Serra Malagueta Natural Park sits in the highlands of Santiago, reached via Assomada. Fertile slopes and deep valleys surround the 850-metre start. More than 124 plant species and 19 bird species live across the 774 hectares.
Tarrafal is white sand framed by hills and palm trees, still on Santiago after the highland walk. Lunch by the sea is a pause you pay for yourself, then the late-afternoon drive south. The mountain and the beach sit in one day without you hiring a car.
Children from six years can join this easy park walk when they are happy on their feet for the trail and a beach afternoon. Groups stay between one and eight guests. Comfortable shoes and a full day outdoors are still part of the outing.
Bring flip-flops or sandals, a towel, a hat, swimwear, sunscreen and the park entrance fee as well. Shared rates list adults from 12, children from 3 to 11 and infants from 0 to 2 at checkout, while children need to be 6 or over to join the walk.
Guides from Santiago walk Serra Malagueta regularly and know the endemic plants, the bird list and how to pace an easy loop so you still have energy for Tarrafal. After lunch beside the palms there is still time to swim before the late-afternoon drive back to Praia.
The day is built as a contrast: a green mountain walk, then a swim on white sand under palms. Hotel collection from Praia means you start the park trail at 850 metres instead of arranging two transfers yourself.
Hotel pickup in Praia is included. We collect you in the morning, drive inland via the Assomada Market toward Serra Malagueta, and return you to the same hotel in the late afternoon after Tarrafal.
Share your hotel name when you book so the driver can plan the round. Flights and any inter-island travel to reach Praia stay your responsibility.
This is an easy park trail. You hike at about 850 metres on one of the park's scenic trails, then retrace your steps to the starting point where the vehicle waits. It is a full day because of the transfers and the beach, not because the trail is steep.
Comfortable shoes are enough for many guests, though the path is still outdoor ground. Children aged 6 and over can join when they are happy to walk the loop and spend the afternoon at Tarrafal.
Yes. After the hike you transfer to Tarrafal Beach for a swim in clear water and time on the white sand under palm trees. Hills frame the bay, and there is a break for lunch by the sea.
Lunch itself is not included, so bring money for a cafe or pack food. Bring swimwear, a towel and flip-flops or sandals for the beach section.
Serra Malagueta Natural Park charges an entrance fee that you should bring on the day. That ticket is not part of the tour price. Your guide will tell you when to pay at the park.
The fee supports a 774-hectare reserve with more than 124 plant species and 19 bird species. Keep a little cash handy along with your water and sunscreen.
The drive from Praia heads inland to the traditional Assomada Market before the mountains. It is a waypoint on the way to the park rather than a long shopping visit, so you still have time for the trail and Tarrafal.
If you want longer in the market, say so when you book and we will be honest about how much the day can stretch. The hike and the swim remain the core of the itinerary.
The minimum age is 6. Shared rates also show a child band from 3 to 11 and an infant band from 0 to 2 at checkout, but children need to be 6 or over to join the walk. Book children only if they can walk the park loop.
Groups stay at eight or fewer, which helps us match the pace. Tell us ages in advance if you are unsure whether the full day will suit your family.
This is a shared group trek with a maximum of eight guests and a minimum of one. That cap keeps the trail and the beach transfer easier to manage than a large coach outing.
If your own party already fills several seats, you may have the park path largely to yourselves. The calendar shows remaining places for your date.
Comfortable shoes, flip-flops or sandals, a towel, a hat, swimwear, sunscreen and the park entrance fee are what you need. Water is essential on a seven-hour day that moves from highland sun to the beach.
Lunch at Tarrafal is not included, so bring money or a packed meal. Leave large luggage at the hotel in Praia. We return you there in the late afternoon.
The itinerary includes time for lunch by the sea after the swim, but lunch itself is not an inclusion. Plan to buy food at Tarrafal or bring your own.
The contrast between the mountain trail and the beach is the point of the afternoon. We still give you enough time to eat before the drive back to Praia.
Cancel 2 days or less before this park-and-beach day and we charge a 100% cancellation fee. Cancel 6 days or less before and the fee is 50%. Cancel up to 1000 days before the event and the fee is 0%.
Keep your Praia hotel name up to date and contact us quickly if you need another inland pickup morning.
