Your family keeps a private coach from 9am to 3pm on a Pembrokeshire beach, so the brief, the drills and the water time stay with your group of up to four. First stands stay in white water you can stand in. If someone already pops up, the session can move onto unbroken waves. Boards and wetsuits are included.
Tell the coach what each person wants from the half day, then a short land brief and the rest in the water. The coach stays next to your group rather than splitting attention across an open lesson. If children are in the party, the pace stays with them.
Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am. The exact beach is confirmed the day before around swell, wind and tide. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach. There is time to come in, warm up and go back out rather than rushing a two-hour slot.
Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, and Manorbier are the usual beaches. We pick the one that suits the group and the forecast, then send the pin the evening before.
Parking sits near both beaches. If neither is usable we move to another Pembrokeshire stretch and message you. Check your messages so you drive to the right car park.
Mixed ages still work; the session follows the youngest or least confident person. No surfing experience is needed. Everyone should be happy in the sea and able to swim about 25 metres. Children from 7 can join.
Swimwear, a towel and a warm layer. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach for the whole booking.
The coach is yours for the half day, not shared with other bookers. Coaches hold ISA surf awards and work as beach lifeguards, and sessions are AALA licensed. Dean has taught families on this coast since 1999.
Boards and wetsuits are fitted on the sand. Mixed confidence in one family still works, because the brief and the water time stay with your group.
The meeting beach is confirmed the day before. That is usually Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, or Manorbier. Park in the beach car park and walk to the flagged meeting point.
Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am so you can change and talk through what each person wants from the half day.
The coach is yours from 9am to 3pm. The brief, the drills and the water time follow your family, which helps mixed ages and people who want more or less coaching than an open two-hour slot.
Kit is fitted on the sand. There is time to come in, warm up and go back out rather than rushing a short window.
Up to four people in the private group. That keeps the coach close enough to give cues between waves. Tell us ages so we can put the right boards out.
Larger parties should send a message in advance so we can look at more than one coach if the numbers need it.
The window is 9am to 3pm, including changing and time on the sand. Most of that is in the water with your group, not a two-hour open lesson.
Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am. There is time to come in, eat a snack and go back out.
Seven. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach for the whole half day. The pace stays with the youngest or least confident person.
Tell us ages so we can put the right boards out. Mixed ages share the same coach, just at a calmer pace if a child is in the water.
No. First-timers and people who already stand up can share the same private half day. Tell the coach at the start so the drills match what each person can already do.
If everyone in the group already rides unbroken waves, say so. The session can spend less time on a first-stand script and more time on where to sit.
The beach is confirmed the day before. That is usually Freshwater West or Manorbier. Park in the beach car park and walk to the flagged meeting point.
Check your messages the evening before so you are not driving to a closed car park.
A surfboard and a wetsuit for each person, fitted on the sand. We match the board to size and how the beach is working. Your own full-length suit is fine.
Leave phones and bags in the car. If someone needs medication in the water, give it to the coach at the start.
Ordinary wind and rain do not stop the half day. We move beach when the swell or wind makes the planned spot unsafe, or if we cannot run a useful session there.
Check your messages the evening before if you are travelling a long way, so you have the confirmed beach before you leave.
Swimwear, a towel, a warm dry layer and sunscreen for each person. A water bottle and a snack help in the middle of the day. Get changed into swimwear before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.
Flip-flops are useful for the walk from the car. Leave valuables in the car. Pack a bag for wet swimwear afterwards.
Everyone should be able to swim about 25 metres and be happy in the sea. First stands stay in water you can stand in, but you still fall in. The coach stays with your group.
If one person is very nervous, say so in advance. The coach can keep them closer and spend longer on the first minutes in the white water.

Leon was an amazing instructor
Hi, thanks it was great, 5 stars, great teacher. Cheers, Sarah
Our booking was at midday for 2 hours, but we didn’t get the stuff until 12:15 when the lady came back with the surf school. We were then told to bring the stuff back before 2 pm or she wouldn’t be there (we needed to get our deposit back). This…
Got some surfboards and wetsuits for a couple of hours. They were dropped off at the right place right time, he was very helpful and knowledgeable, gave us a little info about the beach because we hadn't surfed there before. Will definitely be using again and recommending
We enjoyed our kayaking thoroughly. Much thanks to Jenny who supported our ride plan and made changes accordingly. Big cheers to her 👏🏻🙌🏼
