Pushing the boundaries of deep diving safely requires advanced training in gas mixtures, decompression procedures, and dive planning. This course equips experienced divers to manage dives to 50 meters using air, nitrox, trimix, and oxygen, with specific decompression gas protocols. You’ll gain hands-on experience in planning, executing, and analysing complex dives with the guidance of expert instructors.
Your training begins with detailed classroom instruction at the Gosforth centre. You will cover dive physiology, decompression theory, multi-gas management, and dive planning for extreme depths. Instructors use practical examples and scenario-based exercises to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills for advanced diving.
Confined water sessions give you the chance to practise gas switching, multi-cylinder management, and controlled ascent procedures in a safe environment. Open water dives at selected sites such as Capernwray, Ellerton, or Beadnell Bay allow you to apply these skills in real conditions under close supervision. Each dive is carefully planned to ensure safe progression and mastery of advanced techniques.
The initial theory and preparation take place at the Gosforth dive centre. Confined water exercises are delivered at the heated Elsdon Avenue pool in Seaton Delaval, Whitley Bay. Open water dives are conducted at appropriate local dive sites, chosen for depth and safety.
These locations provide ideal environments to practise complex decompression procedures and multi-gas diving techniques. Instructors ensure that conditions are suitable for skill development while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety and confidence.
Candidates must hold a minimum of 50 logged hours or 75 dives (with at least 25 dives deeper than 35 meters), along with Master Rescue, Sidemount or Twinset Diver, and Decompression Diver certifications. Current Rescue Breathing, CPR, and Oxygen Provider certificates are also required.
You should have prior experience in deep diving, gas management, and decompression procedures. Instructors provide guidance to ensure skills are fully understood and applied correctly, preparing you for challenging underwater conditions.
Training is delivered by highly experienced instructors with expertise in deep and technical diving. Small group sizes allow for individual feedback and personalised guidance, making the learning process safe and effective.
Combining confined water sessions with open water dives ensures that all theoretical and practical skills are thoroughly practised. Instructors focus on safety, competence, and confidence, enabling divers to manage complex decompression dives independently.
Extended decompression dives are dives beyond standard recreational limits that require multiple gases and planned decompression stops. This course teaches you how to safely manage dives up to 50 meters with air, nitrox, trimix, and dedicated decompression gases.
Practical sessions allow you to practise multi-gas handling, precise decompression scheduling, and emergency procedures. Instructors provide feedback at every step, ensuring divers gain confidence and competence before diving independently.
This training is designed for highly experienced divers with prior certifications including Master Rescue, Sidemount or Twinset Diver, and Decompression Diver. A minimum of 50 logged hours or 75 dives, with at least 25 deeper than 35 meters, is required.
Instructors carefully review your experience to ensure readiness. Training covers advanced gas planning, multi-cylinder handling, and deep dive procedures to equip you for challenging dives safely.
The course spans multiple days to allow time for classroom theory, confined water practice, and open water dives. Each dive is structured to give ample opportunity to master gas management, decompression, and emergency skills.
Feedback and repeat exercises are incorporated into the schedule, allowing divers to consolidate skills at their own pace while ensuring complete understanding of advanced dive procedures.
Participants need to provide or hire suitable technical diving gear, including multi-cylinder setups with decompression gases. Instructors ensure correct configuration and management for safe practice.
Hands-on use of your equipment under instructor supervision ensures familiarity and confidence in multi-cylinder and decompression dives. Safety, efficiency, and correct technique are emphasised throughout every session.
Completing this course awards the Extended Decompression Diver certification, recognising your ability to plan and execute dives up to 50 meters with multiple gases.
This qualification allows divers to undertake deep technical dives safely and forms a foundation for further advanced technical diving training.
