We are located at Hove Lagoon. You will be sent the full address and postcode upon booking, but here is a guide to finding us:
No prior watersports experience is required. The course is designed to take you from beginner to instructor level. You'll develop your water confidence, gain practical skills, and progress towards becoming a qualified instructor.
You need to be at least 17 years old to enrol in the course. Instructor qualifications can only be awarded once you turn 18.
Attendance is crucial to achieving the course outcomes. Missing sessions will impact your ability to gain the necessary qualifications, as the course is sold as a package, not on a sessional basis. We are unable to refund missed sessions.
We provide most of the watersports equipment for your training. However, you will need to bring suitable personal clothing for watersports activities, including swimwear, a wetsuit (available for hire if needed), water shoes, and warm layers for outdoor sessions. A change of clothes is also recommended.
As part of the course, you’ll gain hands-on work experience at our watersports centre, learning in a real working environment. This will give you insight into the day-to-day operations of a watersports centre and prepare you for future seasonal or full-time employment in the industry.
While the course fee of £1,499 covers most of the required qualifications, some optional advanced courses (e.g., RYA Dinghy Instructor, RYA Wing Foil Instructor) are available at a reduced rate for course participants. Personal kit such as wetsuits, travel, and accommodation are not included.
A typical day will involve a mix of practical on-water sessions and theory-based learning. You’ll spend time mastering various watersports, including sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and powerboating. You’ll also have time for personal practice and instructor qualification work.
Our dedicated team will provide ongoing support and guidance throughout your training. If you're struggling with any aspect of the course, we'll work with you to ensure you get the help you need. If you don’t pass a specific qualification, we offer opportunities to retake or revisit the required sections.
Yes, once you’ve successfully completed the course and earned your instructor qualifications, you’ll be ready to work as a watersports instructor. Many of our students find seasonal employment opportunities directly through Lagoon Watersports or other affiliated centres.
As you develop your skills, you can progress to higher-level qualifications such as RYA Dinghy Instructor, RYA Wing Foil Instructor, and eventually work towards becoming an RYA Yacht Sailing Instructor. We also offer support for those looking to pursue more advanced or specialised training in the future.
Booking is simple! Just send us a message and we will get you booked in for an open day. Places are limited, so early registration is recommended. For any questions or assistance with booking, feel free to contact our team.
