In this session, climbers will learn and practice advanced belaying techniques essential for lead climbing. Designed for those already familiar with the basics of lead climbing and belaying, this session focuses on improving skills to enhance safety, build trust between climbing partners, and ensure efficient, effective belaying techniques. Participants will gain confidence in using different belay devices, giving dynamic catches, and managing weight differences.
In this session, you will focus on refining your belaying skills with an emphasis on safety and efficiency. The instructor will first introduce you to a variety of belay devices and guide you in selecting the most suitable one for your climbing style.
Once you're comfortable with your chosen device, you'll begin practising belaying techniques. This will include learning how to give dynamic catches, which is crucial for preventing injury in case of a fall—no more broken ankles!
You’ll work on anticipating your partner’s movements, improving your ability to react quickly and effectively when a climber is in mid-air.
Throughout the session, you will also focus on managing weight differences between climbers, refining your belay technique so that you can handle all types of climbing situations. Trust-building between you and your climbing partner will also be a key part of the session, as it’s vital for both safety and confidence while climbing. Expect plenty of hands-on practice with real-time feedback from the instructor to ensure you're fully prepared for any lead climbing scenario.
