Stand-up paddleboarding is a brilliant way to enjoy Sligo’s coast, lakes, and hidden waterways. This guided two-hour session is ideal for beginners and improvers, with relaxed instruction in beautiful surroundings. The location is chosen on the day to match the conditions, so you're always paddling where it’s safest and most enjoyable.
On arrival, you’ll be fitted with your wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and leash before being introduced to your board and paddle. A short briefing on land will cover SUP technique, safety, and how to paddle efficiently without burning unnecessary energy—especially helpful if you're new to it. Once everyone is ready, the instructor will lead the group onto the water, keeping things steady and enjoyable from the start.
The pace is relaxed and there’s plenty of time to build confidence, take in the views, and enjoy the experience. Midway through, there's a break for swimming or photos, and the instructor is always nearby offering guidance and encouragement. Whether you’re trying SUP for the first time or brushing up on your technique, the focus is on having fun while exploring one of Sligo’s scenic SUP spots.
The session takes place at one of four handpicked SUP locations in County Sligo, chosen on the day based on weather, wind, and tide. Doorly Park and Hazelwood offer calm inland paddling just outside Sligo town—ideal for beginners or days with stronger winds. Glencar sits beneath steep hills with great views, while Mullaghmore provides a coastal setting with open water and wide horizons.
Each site offers a unique paddling experience, but all are easy to access by road and within driving distance of central Sligo. Once booked, you’ll receive confirmation of the meeting point along with any other info you need to prepare. All locations are well suited to small groups and allow for a peaceful and scenic SUP session without the crowds.
You must be able to swim a short distance confidently in open water. If you’re unsure about your ability or have any health conditions that might affect participation, please get in touch before booking.
All under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must complete a waiver before joining the session.
This centre has been offering high-quality SUP sessions in Sligo since 2015 and is run by a local instructor who knows both the sport and the area inside out. ASI-accredited and safety-focused, the team is committed to delivering friendly, flexible sessions that are shaped around the needs of the group—whether you’re a complete beginner or looking for a new place to paddle.
The instructor is known for his patience, relaxed teaching style, and great local knowledge, which adds a personal touch to every session. Reviews regularly mention how easy he makes it for first-timers to feel confident on the water and how enjoyable the experience is overall. It’s a great choice for families, individuals, or anyone wanting to do something active and memorable in Sligo.
You’ll be provided with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and leash, so there’s no need to buy any specialist gear beforehand. Just bring swimwear to wear under your wetsuit, along with a towel and dry clothes to change into afterwards.
It’s also a good idea to pack sunscreen, a hat, and warm layers depending on the weather, as conditions can change quickly along the coast or on inland lakes. Water shoes or old trainers are optional, but barefoot is totally fine too.
No previous experience is needed—this session is designed for complete beginners as well as those who’ve tried SUP before and want to improve. The instructor will cover all the basics before you get on the water.
You’ll learn how to stand, paddle efficiently, and control your board without wasting energy. The focus is on keeping it relaxed and fun, with plenty of support throughout the session so everyone feels confident.
The SUP session runs at one of four scenic locations in County Sligo: Doorly Park, Hazelwood, Glencar, or Mullaghmore. The exact location is chosen on the day depending on weather, tide, and wind conditions to ensure the safest and most enjoyable paddling.
You’ll receive confirmation of the meeting point after booking, along with directions and any other information you need. All sites are within easy driving distance of Sligo town and offer peaceful paddling spots with beautiful surroundings.
The session is open to anyone aged 10 and over. It’s a brilliant activity for kids, teens, and adults, whether you're joining as a family, a group of friends, or coming on your own.
All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the water. The pace is gentle, and the instructor is experienced in working with mixed-age groups, so everyone can enjoy the experience together.
SUP is weather-dependent, but sessions can run in light wind or rain as long as conditions are safe. If the forecast isn’t ideal for one location, the instructor will pick a more sheltered site to make sure the session can still go ahead.
If the weather is unsuitable for SUP at any of the four locations, the session may be postponed or rescheduled. You’ll be contacted ahead of time if this is the case, and every effort is made to give you plenty of notice.
You don’t need to be super fit to enjoy paddleboarding, but you should be comfortable standing for short periods and moving at a gentle pace on the water. The session is low-impact and great for building balance and coordination.
If you’re unsure about your fitness level, it’s worth contacting the centre before booking to chat through any concerns. The instructor will always pace the session around the group and offer breaks as needed.
Yes, you’re welcome to bring a waterproof GoPro or phone in a proper floatable waterproof case. There’s usually a chance to take photos during the session when the group stops for a break or swim.
However, any personal devices are your responsibility, and there’s always a small risk of dropping them in the water. The instructor may also take some photos during the session and share them afterwards when possible.
A basic level of swimming ability is required for safety reasons. While you’ll be wearing a buoyancy aid at all times, you do need to be confident in the water in case you fall off the board.
If you’re not sure whether your swimming level is suitable, it’s best to get in touch with us via the adventuro chat before booking.
