Experience a full afternoon and evening exploring Comino and Gozo by boat and buggy, combining a coastal cruise with a guided self-drive route across Gozo’s varied terrain. This eight-hour adventure includes a packed meal, swim stop (seasonal), sunset viewpoints, and access to both well-known landmarks and quieter rural areas. The tour offers a balanced pace designed for guests who enjoy outdoor exploration with moderate physical demand.
You’ll travel in a two-seater buggy, following an experienced tour leader across scenic routes and coastal viewpoints. The final part of the day lets you experience Gozo during sunset, giving the island a completely different atmosphere compared with daytime tours.
The experience begins with an afternoon pick-up from your accommodation or nearest meeting point. Once transported to the departure location, you board a private boat heading towards Comino. The cruise follows the island’s shoreline, passing the Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon, and the sea caves. During summer, and only when conditions allow, the boat stops for around 45 minutes at one of the lagoons for swimming. These areas are known for clear water, sheltered pockets of coastline, and good visibility.
After the cruise, you continue by private boat to Gozo, where the buggy segment begins. A safety briefing and operational overview prepare you for the self-drive element. The route follows rural paths, coastal roads, and lesser-known backroads, allowing you to explore viewpoints including Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs, Dwejra Bay, Xwejni Salt Pans, Għasri Valley, and Marsalforn. As daylight fades, the group stops at a sunset viewpoint, giving you time to take photos and enjoy the changing colours over the landscape. The packed meal is provided during this part of the tour to maximise time outdoors.
The tour leader sets the pace, ensures safe spacing between buggies, and adapts the route depending on conditions. After nightfall, the convoy returns to the departure point, where a private boat (or Gozo ferry when required) transfers everyone back to Malta. A minivan then returns you to your accommodation or original meeting point.
This tour operates across Comino and Gozo, with maritime sections conducted via private boats. The Comino segment covers the island’s perimeter, offering close views of its cliffs, caves, and lagoons. This part of the experience depends heavily on sea conditions, with alternative routing provided if weather prevents the cruise.
The Gozo segment spans the southern cliffs, western coastline, and northern salt pans. The terrain varies from paved rural roads to compacted dirt tracks, giving a mix of smooth and slightly more technical surfaces. Sunset viewpoints on Gozo offer wide panoramas and clear visibility of the surrounding landscape, making them ideal for photography and sightseeing.
Drivers must be at least 21 and must present an original driving licence—no photocopies or digital versions are accepted. Buggies are insured under third-party policies, but a credit card is required to cover any insurance excess or traffic fines. Helmets and hairnets are provided, and both driver and passenger must wear helmets and seat belts at all times.
This activity is not suitable for pregnant guests, travellers with back or heart conditions, or anyone with mobility restrictions. Young children may join (ages 3+), but the tour is not recommended for very young participants due to its duration and terrain. Guests should bring swimwear, footwear with grip, sunscreen, and a towel if planning to swim.
This full-day route lets you explore Gozo at a time of day when the island is quieter and more atmospheric. The sunset setting adds depth to the landscapes, giving a perspective that daytime tours cannot match. Combining a cruise, a swim, and a guided buggy route creates a varied and well-paced itinerary suitable for guests seeking a full outdoor programme.
The self-drive aspect keeps the experience engaging while still benefiting from professional guidance and convoy structure. With transfers, equipment, and a packed meal included, the day is designed to maximise your time outside while keeping logistics simple and efficient.
