Surfing here is more than just catching waves — it’s about enjoying a lifestyle filled with ocean energy and community spirit. Based in Strandhill, this package offers three flexible group sessions that fit around your summer plans, suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers wanting to build confidence and improve skills.
This summer package includes three group surf sessions that you can take at your own pace — whether that’s three days in a row or spread out over the season. Each 150-minute lesson is designed to help you develop your surfing skills step by step, with clear guidance tailored to beginner and intermediate levels. The instructors provide hands-on coaching to improve your paddling, positioning, and wave-catching techniques while ensuring you stay safe in the water.
All the essential surf gear is provided, including boards and wetsuits, so you only need to bring your swimsuit and towel. After your session, enjoy access to new changing rooms and hot showers, making it easy to freshen up before heading off. The supportive group environment also encourages new friendships and a sense of belonging in the local surf community.
Strandhill is a vibrant coastal town in Ireland, known for some of the best waves in Europe and a welcoming atmosphere. The meeting point is at the National Surf Centre, right in the heart of Strandhill, offering easy access to the beach and local amenities. This spot is popular for its consistent surf conditions, making it ideal for learners and those improving their skills throughout the summer.
The town itself combines a laid-back vibe with plenty of cafes, shops, and stunning coastal views. It’s a place where surfers and locals come together, creating a strong community spirit that adds to the overall experience.
Participants should be at least eight years old and able to swim confidently. No prior surfing experience is required, making this package perfect for first-timers or those who want to take their surfing further. A reasonable level of fitness helps but is not essential, as the instructors will guide you through every step.
The instructors are fully certified by the Irish Surfing Association, Water Safety Ireland, and have been Garda vetted, ensuring high standards of safety and professionalism. With 16 years of surfing experience, the lead instructor brings passion and expertise, combined with a personal connection to the ocean and local community.
Visitors are warmly welcomed by a dedicated team who genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge and energy. Their journey to Strandhill reflects a deep appreciation for the quality waves and the friendly, laid-back Irish lifestyle, making every session not just a lesson but a chance to connect with others who love surfing.
All lessons take place at the National Surf Centre in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. It’s a purpose-built facility right on the beachfront, offering direct access to one of Ireland’s most well-known surf spots. The centre is fully equipped and easy to find, with parking available nearby and great local cafés and shops just a short walk away.
Being based in Strandhill means you're learning in an area with consistent waves, ideal for both beginners and more experienced surfers. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during peak season, and the bay's layout helps provide safe, manageable surf conditions most of the year.
You’ll need to bring a towel, swimsuit (to wear under the wetsuit), water to stay hydrated, and sunscreen if the sun’s out. It’s always good to come prepared for the changing Irish weather, so throwing in a warm jumper for afterwards is never a bad idea.
If you already own your own wetsuit or board, you’re welcome to bring them along. Some people prefer using their own gear, and we’re happy to work with whatever you’re most comfortable with.
Yes, absolutely. You're more than welcome to bring your own surfboard or wetsuit if you have them. Many returning surfers do this as they’re already familiar with how their own kit feels and performs in the water.
Even if you bring your own gear, our instructors will still tailor the lesson to your level. They’ll help you correct positioning on your board and offer advice on improving technique, regardless of what board you're using.
Yes – in fact, most of our participants are trying surfing for the first time. The sessions are beginner-friendly from the moment you arrive. We’ll start with a beach briefing covering safety and basic techniques, and then move to the water at your pace.
Our instructors are experienced at building confidence, helping you understand how to stand on a board, how to catch waves, and what to do if you fall. By the end of the session, most people will be up and riding – even if just for a few seconds!
No, swimming ability isn’t essential as lessons take place in waist-deep water. However, you do need to be confident being in the sea. If you're very nervous or have a fear of water, let us know in advance so we can support you properly during the session.
Even though the lessons don’t involve deep water, having basic swimming skills can help boost your confidence. Our instructors are always nearby and the lesson area is monitored closely to ensure safety throughout.
We provide everything you need to get started: a surfboard, wetsuit, and boots. All the equipment is well-maintained and suited to a range of sizes and experience levels. You just need to show up with your swimwear and a sense of enthusiasm.
Each session runs for around 2.5 hours, which includes kitting up, the beach briefing, practice in the water, and getting changed afterwards. It’s a good amount of time to learn new skills and still have energy left by the end.
You’ll have access to male and female changing rooms at the National Surf Centre. The facilities include hot showers, which are ideal for warming up after your time in the sea, as well as toilets and space to store your things.
The changing area is located right at the surf school, so it’s easy to get into your gear before your lesson and clean up quickly afterwards. We recommend bringing a bag for your wet swimwear and towel.
Yes – while English is the primary language used, many of our instructors are fluent in other languages. We can offer lessons in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German depending on availability.
If you or someone in your group would prefer instruction in a specific language, please let us know when booking. We’ll do our best to match you with an instructor who speaks your preferred language.
When booking, you’ll be able to select your preferred time for the first lesson. Please note that this may change slightly depending on tide and weather conditions, as we always aim to surf in the best and safest conditions possible.
Once your first lesson is confirmed, you can arrange the remaining two sessions directly with your instructor. This gives you the flexibility to spread them out or group them together to suit your summer plans.
