Collection from Brighton Marina remains the most common choice, allowing easy access to the waters for independent adventures. You’ll leave with all equipment ready to go, including paddle and buoyancy aid, making self-guided paddling simple and convenient.
Our Brighton Marina base is just a short walk from the water’s edge, providing an easy launch point for all your paddling adventures. The marina itself offers calm waters for beginners while still allowing access to open sea routes for more confident paddlers. Parking and nearby amenities make it a practical starting point for local trips.
For those taking advantage of delivery, equipment can be dropped off at your chosen location, allowing you to explore quieter rivers or stretches of coastline. Remember that tides are a key factor for coastal paddling, so planning your route around high and low tides will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
There are no formal prerequisites to hire a kayak or SUP. Participants should be reasonably fit and able to swim at least 50 metres. This ensures you can safely manage your craft and handle minor capsize situations independently.
A basic understanding of tides and water conditions is recommended for those exploring beyond Brighton Marina. While our instructors provide guidance during hire, paddlers are responsible for route planning, so familiarising yourself with your chosen location is important for safety and enjoyment.
Our Brighton Marina base provides a comprehensive hire service with high-quality, well-maintained kayaks and SUPs suitable for a wide range of users. Whether you’re looking for a quiet paddle or a full-day adventure, the flexibility of our hire options allows you to design your own experience. Our equipment is carefully selected to provide stability, durability, and ease of use, ensuring a safe and enjoyable session every time.
The team behind our hire service is highly knowledgeable about the local waters and available routes. While our hire is self-guided, we provide detailed advice, safety briefings, and guidance on tides, launching points, and local conditions. This level of support gives you confidence while allowing the freedom to explore independently, whether paddling along the Brighton seafront or venturing upriver.
Yes. All of our hire craft are designed to be stable and user-friendly, making them suitable for complete beginners. Even without previous experience, you can confidently paddle along the calm waters of Brighton Marina or take your craft to nearby rivers.
We recommend familiarising yourself with basic paddling techniques, such as steering, stopping, and maintaining balance, before venturing further from the marina. This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience as you gain confidence on the water.
Hire is flexible, available by the hour or for a full day. Hourly hire is perfect for a short outing or to try paddleboarding or kayaking for the first time, while full-day hire allows you to explore the coastline or local rivers at a more relaxed pace.
Longer hires are ideal for those wishing to plan their own adventure, spend time practising new skills, or enjoy a full day on the water with friends or family. It’s your choice how far or how long you want to paddle.
All hires come with the necessary equipment: a kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP), a paddle, and a buoyancy aid. This ensures you have everything you need to get on the water safely and comfortably.
You do not need to bring any paddling gear, but you should bring suitable clothing for the water and weather, including layers, waterproofs, and soft-soled shoes to keep you warm and safe throughout your session.
Sit-on-top kayaks support users up to 14 stone (90kg), SUPs up to 115kg, and Pyranha ION kayaks up to 18 stone (115kg). Choosing a craft appropriate for your weight ensures stability, safety, and optimal performance on the water.
It’s important to adhere to these limits, especially for inexperienced paddlers. Exceeding the maximum weight can make the craft harder to control, affect balance, and increase the risk of tipping.
Yes. Equipment can be taken off-site to explore local rivers or stretches of coastline. This allows you to plan your own adventure and paddle in more secluded or scenic areas.
You remain responsible for choosing safe routes and assessing water conditions. We advise researching tides, river flow, and potential hazards before heading out to ensure a secure and enjoyable journey.
Our delivery service brings kayaks and SUPs directly to your chosen location within a 25-mile radius of Brighton Marina. Equipment is dropped off and collected at an agreed time, giving you flexibility to explore rivers or coastal areas independently. You will need to leave a security deposit and a form of ID.
If you prefer, collection from our Brighton Marina shop is the most common option. Located at the waterside, the marina allows you to launch straight into the calm coastal waters and start your adventure immediately. Our staff provide a brief safety briefing and ensure all equipment is ready before you head out.
You should bring clothing suitable for the season, including layers to trap warmth, waterproof jacket and trousers, gloves, hat, and soft-soled shoes. Old trainers or plimsolls are ideal, while sandals or rigid footwear are not permitted on the craft.
A full change of clothes is strongly recommended, as getting wet from spray or minor capsizes is common. Extra layers and a warm jumper or hat can help keep you comfortable throughout your session.
