This programme is designed for both new and experienced recreational freedivers who want to receive training and a recognised certification. It’s an excellent entry-level option that equips you with the necessary safety skills to continue practising with a buddy afterwards. Ideal for comfortable swimmers in good health, this course helps you dive to depths of up to 20 meters safely and efficiently.
In this entry-level course, you will acquire the skills and knowledge to participate in freediving to depths of up to 60 ft. (20 metres) in a relaxed and safe manner. Learn proper breathing techniques, familiarise yourself with diaphragm breathing, and take a deep breath like never before. Develop the skills necessary to train your body to be more efficient with breath-holding, gain better breathing techniques and muscle flexibility, and learn new skills to take your freediving to the next level. Most importantly, there is a strong emphasis on safety skills to ensure you can continue practicing beyond the course.
You will receive a certification from SSI upon successful completion of the course.
The Level 1 course has performance requirements, but it is important to progress at your own pace. If you need more time to practice, you will receive an SSI basic or pool certification and can return anytime for coached diving to practice for the Level 1 upgrade. The course is designed to be taken at a pace that is right for you.
Participants should be comfortable swimmers and in good health. You must also complete prerequisite medical and liability release forms to ensure you are fit to dive. These forms help us understand any health conditions that might affect your safety during the course. You can view this form in the FAQ section of this page.
