This programme introduces young divers to the fundamentals of scuba through a series of structured Aqua Missions. Children complete both basic and intermediate underwater tasks in a safe, confined-water environment, building confidence and familiarity with scuba equipment across two supervised dives.
The session begins with an introduction to scuba equipment sized appropriately for children. Instructors explain how the gear is used and help participants learn to breathe comfortably from a regulator at the surface before entering the water. This ensures children feel relaxed and secure before performing any underwater activities.
The Aqua Missions are divided into two stages. The first focuses on fundamental skills such as clearing a regulator, clearing a mask, equalising, and developing comfort while swimming with equipment. Once the basics are mastered, children move on to more engaging tasks including marine life identification, simple search and recovery exercises, and skin diving skills. All activities are done in confined water under close instructor supervision.
Each mission is structured to promote confidence and curiosity without overloading young divers. The two-dive format allows children to revisit skills and try more advanced tasks as their comfort grows. Completion of the Aqua Missions results in recognition as a Seal Team Member, providing a foundation for future youth scuba programmes.
Training takes place in shallow, confined-water environments designed for youth diving sessions. These areas have reliable visibility, clearly defined depth limits, and stable conditions that make it easy for instructors to supervise children closely and safely. Entry and exit points are accessible and child-friendly.
Facilities include designated briefing areas, secure equipment storage, and shaded seating where parents may observe. The setup allows young divers to learn in a structured yet relaxed environment while ensuring comfort during breaks.
Participants must be at least eight years old and comfortable in shallow water. Parental consent is required, and parents are encouraged to remain nearby throughout the session. No prior scuba experience is needed.
Children should be in good overall health and able to listen and follow instructions. The structure of the Aqua Missions ensures that skills are introduced gradually, matching the capabilities of young divers.
Instructors are trained to work with children and deliver sessions that prioritise safety, patience, and engagement. Skills are broken down into clear steps, allowing young divers to learn without pressure. The course structure supports progression at a comfortable pace while keeping activities fun and purposeful.
Facilities are clean and well organised, with equipment that fits younger divers and is maintained to high standards. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, helping children feel confident as they explore the underwater environment in a safe and encouraging setting.
The Seal Team programme introduces children to scuba through a structured series of Aqua Missions designed specifically for young divers. These missions include basic skills such as breathing underwater, clearing a regulator, and practising buoyancy in a shallow, controlled environment.
The programme also introduces intermediate tasks such as marine life identification and simple search and recovery exercises, giving children a taste of real underwater exploration at a beginner-friendly level.
Bubblemaker focuses solely on a simple introduction to underwater breathing and comfort, whereas Seal Team includes a wider range of skills. Children complete multiple Aqua Missions that progress from basic to more engaging underwater tasks.
This makes Seal Team a more involved programme, ideal for children who are ready for a structured learning path rather than a single introductory experience.
The session typically lasts two to three hours, including equipment fitting, briefings, and two confined-water dives. The pace is tailored to children, ensuring skills are introduced gradually so participants never feel rushed.
Each Aqua Mission lasts around one hour, depending on comfort and readiness. Instructors adjust timing as needed to ensure a positive experience.
Children use properly sized scuba equipment including a mask, fins, buoyancy device, regulator, and air cylinder. All items are selected to ensure comfort, correct fit, and ease of use for younger divers.
Instructors handle equipment setup and safety checks, allowing children to focus on learning and having fun underwater.
While strong swimming ability is not required, children must be comfortable in the water and able to follow instructions. Many skills are practised in kneeling or stationary positions before moving around.
If a child appears hesitant or needs extra reassurance, instructors adapt the session to allow more time for confidence-building.
Aqua Missions are divided into basic and intermediate stages. Basic missions include breathing from a regulator, equalising, mask clearing, and simple buoyancy control. Intermediate missions include marine animal identification, underwater navigation tasks, and entry-level search and recovery skills.
This variety keeps children engaged and helps them build awareness and confidence with each mission.
Children who complete the Aqua Missions become recognised Seal Team Members. This is not a full scuba certification but serves as a structured introduction to youth diving and can lead to junior-level training when they reach the appropriate age.
It also builds a solid foundation for the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course in the future.
They should bring swimwear, a towel, an extra set of clothes, comfortable footwear, and a refillable water bottle. All technical scuba equipment is provided.
Parents may also want to pack light snacks or sun protection for breaks between missions, depending on the facility.
Yes, parents are welcome to stay nearby during briefings and observe from designated areas. Many children feel more comfortable knowing a parent is close, especially during their first experience using scuba equipment.
Instructors remain attentive throughout, ensuring children progress safely while still enjoying the session.
All sessions take place in confined water with a maximum depth appropriate for youth training. Instructors are experienced in working with children and closely supervise participants at all times.
A focus on simple, controlled skills and step-by-step instruction ensures the programme remains both safe and enjoyable, making it an ideal introduction to diving for children.
