What to Expect

Your day starts with the Learn to Wingsurf course, where you'll begin ashore, getting to grips with how to handle the wing and control power. Once you’re comfortable, you'll head out on the water to develop your board skills. The focus will be on learning how to translate wing power into forward movement, practising gybing, and travelling short distances across the wind.

After a lunch break, the afternoon moves into the Improve Your Wingsurfing session. This part of the course helps you refine your transitions, with particular attention to tacking and gybing. The main aim is to get you confidently holding ground upwind, a key milestone for anyone wanting to progress onto wingfoiling. You’ll receive personal coaching throughout to make sure you’re developing at your own pace.

Do I need any prior experience to join this course?

No previous experience is required to join the Wingsurf Combined course. The morning session is designed specifically for beginners and will teach you everything from how to handle the wing on land to sailing short distances on the water.

The afternoon then builds on those skills, so even complete beginners can comfortably take part.

What is the difference between wingsurfing and wingfoiling?

Wingsurfing is done on a larger, more stable board without a hydrofoil, making it ideal for learning the basics of wing control, balance, and sailing technique.

Wingfoiling involves a hydrofoil under the board, which lifts you out of the water at speed.

This combined course is the first step towards wingfoiling and focuses on the control and skills needed before progressing to foiling.

How is the day structured?

The day is split into two parts: the Learn to Wingsurf session runs from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. After a break for lunch (not provided), the Improve Your Wingsurfing session runs from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Each session includes land-based and water-based instruction with clear progression between the two.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring swimwear to wear under a wetsuit, a towel, warm layers for before and after the session, sun protection, and any personal snacks or drinks.

Wetsuits, buoyancy aids, and all wingsurfing equipment are provided.

Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, you will receive an RYA Wingsurfing certificate upon successful completion of the course.

This recognises the skills gained and is useful for tracking your progression or enrolling in more advanced courses such as wingfoiling.
