Join us for a relaxing full-day guided canoe trip along the River Ouse, perfect for families with children aged 4 and up. Paddle through peaceful countryside, spot local wildlife, and enjoy stops along the way to swim, eat, and explore at a gentle pace.
After meeting at Brampton Mill, your guide will run through a safety briefing and get everyone fitted with paddles and buoyancy aids. You’ll then set off on a relaxed paddle down the River Ouse, with instructors offering guidance along the way. The route is easygoing, with no significant currents, and is ideal for beginners, including families with young children.
As you move along the river, you’ll pass green meadows, overhanging trees, and a series of quiet bends and bridges. Wildlife is often spotted en route—kingfishers, herons, swans, and ducks are common companions, and there are plenty of chances to pause and take it all in. Your instructor will point out interesting sights and offer helpful tips on paddling technique throughout the day.
Lunch stops are informal—you're encouraged to bring your own food and drinks, and there are several natural spots along the way where you can sit, eat, and maybe take a swim if conditions allow. The group returns to Brampton Mill by late afternoon, with time to dry off, gather your kit, and reflect on the adventure.
The session takes place at Brampton Mill, a riverside location on the River Ouse near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. This launch point offers quick access to one of the most scenic and gentle stretches of the river, making it perfect for families and first-time paddlers. The setting is peaceful but easy to reach, with parking nearby and a pub on-site for those who want to stop for a drink or meal after the paddle.
As the route is linear and returns to the start, there’s no need to organise pickups or transfers. The surrounding area is rich in birdlife, with plenty of shaded stretches, calm water, and countryside views throughout. The trip makes the most of this calm water environment while keeping things fun and varied for all ages.
No previous canoeing experience is needed. Instructors will provide a full briefing at the start and offer help throughout the session to ensure everyone feels comfortable.
Children must be accompanied by an adult in the same canoe. All participants must wear a buoyancy aid while on the water. Basic swimming ability is recommended, especially for younger children.
This family-friendly trip offers a safe and relaxed way to experience the countryside by water, with expert instructors on hand to guide and support you. The day is paced to suit the group, with plenty of time for fun, wildlife spotting, and rest breaks along the way.
Unlike more formal lessons, this is a chance to enjoy paddling with your family in a beautiful setting, with all equipment provided and no pressure to perform. It's a great way to build water confidence and create shared memories in nature.
