Blending white water rafting with coasteering, this combined ocean adventure takes you along the Cornish coastline by raft before exploring hidden rocky sections on foot and through the water. Available as either an open group session or private experience, the trip combines paddling, swimming, climbing and coastal exploration into one action-packed session.
Meeting at the harbour base, the session begins with a safety briefing before everyone gets changed into winter wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. Once equipped, the guides lead the group onto the beach for warm-up exercises, paddle drills and rafting practice before launching into the ocean from Newquay Harbour.
The adventure starts with a guided raft safari along the coastline, paddling through swell, white water and rocky coastal sections under paddle power. Along the route, the guides introduce raft steering techniques while pointing out caves, wildlife and natural features along the cliffs. Rather than staying in the raft for the entire trip, the experience combines rafting with sections of coasteering, allowing participants to climb across rocks, swim through sea channels, explore caves and take part in cliff jumps where conditions allow.
After exploring the coasteering sections, the group climbs back into the raft to continue the journey along the coastline before paddling back towards the harbour. Throughout the session, guides adapt the route around tides and sea conditions to make the most of the environment on the day. Returning to shore, there is time for a debrief before heading back to base for showers and changing facilities.
Launching directly from Newquay Harbour provides quick access to sheltered launch areas as well as more exposed sections of coastline further along the route. The surrounding waters offer a varied environment for rafting and coasteering, with swell zones, rocky inlets and sea caves all within paddling distance from the harbour.
Seen from the water, this part of Cornwall feels completely different compared to exploring it on foot. The combination of ocean paddling and coasteering allows participants to reach hidden sections of coastline that are otherwise difficult to access, creating a more immersive coastal adventure experience.
Participants do not need previous rafting or coasteering experience, although they should feel comfortable around water and prepared for an active session involving paddling, swimming and climbing over rocks. Guides explain all safety procedures and techniques before each section of the activity begins.
A minimum of four participants is required for the activity to operate. Junior participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the session.
Drawing on years of experience across rafting, coasteering and coastal guiding, the team has developed a session that combines multiple adventure activities into one experience while keeping safety and progression at the centre of the trip. Direct access to the coastline from Newquay Harbour allows guides to adapt routes according to tides and sea conditions each day.
Mel brings extensive experience within adventure activities and watersports, helping visitors choose the right session for their group and ensuring the experience remains welcoming and well organised from arrival through to the end of the trip.
