Book the beach time to yourselves at Praa Sands. A coach spends two hours with your group only, from a first pop-up through to green waves if that is already within reach. The walk from the car park to the water is short, and the kit stays with you for an extra hour after the lesson.
Meet at the beach car park, kit up, then talk through what each person wants. The brief on the sand is short. Most of the two hours is in the water, with the coach giving cues between waves. Mixed families stay together; the session follows the youngest or least confident person.
Please arrive 15 minutes early. Changing rooms, toilets and lockers are at the car park. After the lesson you can keep the kit for another hour. If Praa is not usable we move you and send directions. Larger groups may have a second coach.
Praa Sands sits on the south coast, a short drive from Penzance, with a long sandy beach and the meeting point in the beach car park on Castle Drive, TR20 9TG. The walk to the water is short.
A cafe and toilets sit next to the car park. If the south coast is not working we pick another beach and confirm it by message. Lifeguards cover the bay in the main season.
No surfing experience is needed. The lesson suits a first go and people who already stand up. Children from five can join. The pace follows the youngest person in the group.
Bring swimwear, a towel and warm clothes. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach. Under-eights who want a shorter hour can ask about a Young Guns slot.
The same coaching team runs Praa Sands and Gwithian. Coaches hold surf awards and lifeguard qualifications, and the school is a Surfing England Centre of Excellence. Chris used to head the British surf team.
A private slot means you are not sharing the coach with an open group. You pick a time around the tide, and we can add another coach if the party is large or split by age.
Meet at Praa Sands Beach Car Park, Castle Drive, Praa Sands, TR20 9TG. Park in the beach car park and walk to the lesson base.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your start time so you can change and talk through the session.
The coach is yours for the two hours. You are not sharing the peak with other bookers, and the drills follow your group. That helps mixed families and people who want a specific skill rather than a standard first-stand script.
The kit and the extra hour afterwards are the same as the group lesson. If you are happy joining other people, the open group on this beach is the cheaper option.
From one person up to 16. We add another coach for larger or mixed-age parties so nobody is waiting on the sand. Tell us the headcount and ages when you book.
The session still follows the youngest or least confident person. That is how a private family hour stays together on one peak.
Five. Children under eight may be happier in a shorter Young Guns hour with a maximum of two children. Ask if that sounds a better fit than a full two hours.
Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach. The adult can stay on the sand or join the water time as part of the same booking.
Praa Sands Beach Car Park, Castle Drive, TR20 9TG. Kit up at the base, then walk onto the sand. Toilets, lockers and a cafe sit next to the car park.
If Praa is not usable we send a new meeting point. Check your messages the evening before and again that morning.
A board, a wetsuit and a rash vest. Boots come out when the water is cold. Your own full-length suit is fine. We match the board to size, age and the day's waves.
After the two hours you can keep that kit for another hour. That extra hour is unguided.
Yes, within the times we can staff and the tide. Typical starts sit around late morning and mid-afternoon. We confirm a slot that also works with the swell.
If the tide or wind moves, we may shift you an hour either way and tell you as soon as we can.
Rain does not cancel a lesson. We move or cancel when the beach is unsafe or there is nothing useful to ride. A nearby beach is the first option.
If we cancel, we rearrange. Message us the day before if you are driving a long way.
Swimwear, a towel, warm dry clothes and sunscreen. A water bottle helps. Get changed into swimwear before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.
Leave bags in a locker or the car. Give the coach any medication you need in the water.
Yes. A few private hours across a stay works well if you want a plan rather than a one-off. Get in touch after the first booking and we will line up the other dates.
Each session is still two hours on Praa Sands, unless we have to move for conditions.
You should be happy in the sea. Beginners stay in water they can stand in. The coach is a lifeguard and stays close to the group.
If someone is nervous, say so when you book. We will keep that person on the inside and not push them out the back.

We had a great time. Fred was a great coach. Will definitely come again
Our instructor Harlyn was great! She is obviously really skilled and made sure we knew what to do and my daughter really learned a lot!

Coasterring with Lizard adventure. Great day out. Rory was great with us. Got some sea snacks along the way. Great jumps for all levels. Saw the seals. All in all a great day out
I was impressed that Steve contacted me to ask if my adolescents would like a more adventurous experience and tailored the coasteering to them. They all had a great time - came back exhilarated and exhausted. Thanks also for taking some great photos
Chris and Chloe were great guides and coaches, and provided us a wonderfull experience.
We had the best time! There 5 in our group today and Ru was the best guide. He made sure everyone was safe, comfortable with the level of challenge and knowledgeable about the area, flora, and fauna. The views from the cliffs and water were absolutely stunning! I’m so glad…
We had a fab time with Steve guiding us. A wide range of abilities and Steve enabled us all to meet our challenges and succeed. Highly recommend this as an amazing activity. Thumbs up for Steve. Thank you.
