Swap dry land for saltwater adventure with this open group coasteering session at The Lizard. Navigate through tidal gullies, caves, and sea cliffs in a guided experience packed with optional challenges like wild swimming, rock scrambling and low-level cliff jumps. It’s an active, fun way to see a different side of Cornwall’s coastline.
After meeting your guide at The Lizard, you’ll be fitted with a full wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid, and given a safety briefing before heading to the water’s edge. From there, the group will move together around the coastal route, tackling a series of natural features at a relaxed, no-pressure pace. Activities include short sea swims, climbing over ledges, traversing rocky outcrops, and optional low jumps into deep pools—each suited to a variety of comfort levels.
Sea conditions are monitored closely, and the chosen route may change depending on the weather to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience. Throughout the session, guides are on hand to offer tips, encouragement and support, with the freedom to opt out of any part of the route that doesn’t suit you. A free photo package is included, so you can focus on the adventure while we capture the moments for you.
This session is based around the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, with coasteering routes selected from several exceptional spots including Church Cove, Mullion Cove, Bass Point and Predannack. Each location offers a mix of exciting features like sea caves, plunge pools, natural archways and unique rock formations.
The final location for your session will be confirmed the day before, based on weather and sea conditions to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience. All sites are within easy reach of the TR12 7NJ area, and full joining instructions, including exact meeting point and parking details, will be provided upon booking confirmation.
Participants must be at least 10 years old and able to swim 50 metres unaided. A reasonable level of physical fitness is recommended, but previous coasteering experience is not required.
All activities are optional, and the pace of the session is adapted to suit the group.
The centre is backed by over 20 years of hands-on experience delivering coastal adventure sports in Cornwall. Led by a professional team that includes former national coaches and surf lifesaving assessors, the team is known for offering safe, high-quality outdoor sessions with a friendly, informal approach.
Sessions are kept personal and welcoming, whether you're joining solo or as part of a group, with plenty of flexibility to make the most of conditions on the day.
Your safety is our number 1 priority. On arrival, each member of your group will be equipped with a warm winter wetsuit, buoyancy aid, diving mask and helmet.
The adventure will be run at your pace and all our jump spots have small (1 metre), medium (1-3 metre) and large (3 metre +) options to match your confidence.
You’ll need to arrive with swimwear already on underneath your clothes, as this speeds up changing. You’ll also need a pair of lace-up trainers or sturdy wetsuit boots—these are essential for grip and foot protection while climbing and scrambling. Beach shoes or slip-ons are not suitable and may result in you being unable to participate.
Please also bring a pair of shorts to wear over the wetsuit we provide, a towel or changing robe for afterwards, and any personal medication such as inhalers or EpiPens. We supply high-quality winter wetsuits, helmets, buoyancy aids, and all safety kit.
Yes, absolutely. This session is designed to be accessible to all abilities, and no previous coasteering experience is required. As long as you can swim 50 metres unaided, you’ll be able to take part.
The route is adapted to the group’s ability level and the sea conditions on the day. Everything is optional, including the jumps, so if you’d rather swim around or skip a section, that’s always fine. The guides are experienced at supporting first-timers and making the session feel safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The entire session runs for up to 3 hours, including meeting your instructor, getting kitted up, safety briefing, and the coasteering itself. You can expect to spend approximately 2 hours in the water, depending on the group pace, sea conditions and weather.
Some groups move quicker than others, so we keep the structure flexible to ensure you have the best experience without rushing or cutting it short unnecessarily.
Our youngest age for a Group Coasteering Adventure is 10 years old.
The youngest age for a Private Coasteering Adventure is 6 years old. To go private, scroll down to see ‘more courses by this centre’ to book.
We do not allow glasses and any obstructing jewellery to be worn whilst Coasteering. Jewellery includes rings, necklaces, bracelets and hooped earrings.
All valuables can be stored safely in our safe whilst we recommend using contact lenses during the lesson. Prescription goggles are acceptable.
Safety is always the priority. If the sea is too rough or conditions at The Lizard are not suitable on the day, we will either modify the session route to a more sheltered area nearby or offer an alternative location that we know is safe.
You will be contacted in advance with full details if a change is needed. We have multiple route options around Cornwall and a deep understanding of how to adapt sessions to the weather.
You’re more than welcome to join solo. This is an open group session, which means individuals, couples, families, and friends all join together for the experience. It's a great way to meet other people and share the adventure.
The guides are friendly and inclusive, and many of our solo participants say it's one of the best things they did during their holiday. All equipment is provided individually, and the session is tailored to include everyone in the group.

Coasterring with Lizard adventure. Great day out. Rory was great with us. Got some sea snacks along the way. Great jumps for all levels. Saw the seals. All in all a great day out
I was impressed that Steve contacted me to ask if my adolescents would like a more adventurous experience and tailored the coasteering to them. They all had a great time - came back exhilarated and exhausted. Thanks also for taking some great photos
We had a fab time with Steve guiding us. A wide range of abilities and Steve enabled us all to meet our challenges and succeed. Highly recommend this as an amazing activity. Thumbs up for Steve. Thank you.
Five stars great fun and engaging and entertaining hosting!
It was great and our guide was very enthusiastic, personable and conscientious. Thankyou!
Absolutely fabulous. Chris(?) the instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful but also definitely a ‘people person’. It was my first ever time and I loved every second of it. Will definitely do again. But wanting to make this a frequent thing for me. Sad to think it may not be…
Adam was a very knowledgeable and seemingly very experienced guide on our sea kayaking adventure from Mullion Cove. We had a great time, paddling alongside seals and in and out of caves and coves.
We partner with Rewilding Britain to help protect our natural spaces for future adventures.
