Over the course of three hours, you will learn practical skills and strategies to handle various river scenarios and improve your overall paddling experience.
During this informative session, you will receive hands-on training in self-rescue techniques essential for staying safe in moving water. The workshop covers practical skills such as how to rescue yourself and others in various scenarios, from individual emergencies to group situations. You will also learn about different types of equipment and how to set it up properly, as well as the principles of safe craft towing.
The training includes practical exercises to test and refine your skills in a controlled environment, providing you with the confidence to handle real-life river challenges. Expect to participate in scenario-based drills that simulate common river conditions and emergencies. By the end of the workshop, you will be well-prepared to contribute to your paddling team’s safety and efficiency.
The workshop is held at Sandy Lane Park in Chester, a convenient location with easy access to river environments suitable for practical training.
The park provides a safe and controlled setting for learning essential paddling safety skills.
No prior experience is required, but participants should be comfortable in the water. The session is open to all levels of kayakers, canoeists, and stand-up paddleboarders. Non-swimmers are welcome, but please inform your instructor in advance.

This workshop is designed to equip paddlers with essential safety skills, including self-rescue and team rescue techniques.
It aims to increase your confidence and capability on the water, ensuring that you can handle various river situations effectively and safely.
You should bring your own kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or canoe, along with a paddle. Wear warm, water-appropriate clothing such as a wetsuit and closed-toe shoes.
If you have any personal safety equipment you'd like to use, bring that as well. If you don’t have your own equipment, we offer rental options for an additional fee.
No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers.
The training is designed to cater to various skill levels and provide valuable knowledge to enhance your safety on the water.
If you don’t have your own kayak, paddleboard, or other equipment, you can arrange to hire these items for £25 per day.
