Created for beginners wanting to build confidence quickly, this surf coaching weekend combines structured lessons with repeated water time, video feedback, and personalised coaching across two full days. Taking place on Newquay’s famous surf beaches, the weekend focuses on helping participants develop strong surfing foundations while improving wave awareness, board control, and overall confidence in the sea.
Saturday begins with introductions, goal setting, and the first coached surf session of the weekend. Coaches focus on the key foundations needed for beginner progression, including paddling, wave timing, pop-up techniques, and positioning on the board. Sessions take place in manageable surf conditions suited to beginner surfers, helping participants build confidence gradually while spending plenty of time in the water.
Following the first surf session, instructors review footage and discuss individual progress before heading back into the sea for further coaching later in the day. Repeated water sessions allow participants to immediately practise the feedback they receive, helping techniques become more natural through repetition and guidance. Small coaching groups also allow instructors to adapt advice around individual strengths and areas needing improvement.
Sunday begins with a breakfast board meeting where surfers review video footage from the previous day alongside the coaching team. Goals and focus areas are discussed before heading into the final coached surf session of the weekend. Equipment remains available afterwards, allowing participants to continue practising independently and make the most of their time in the water before heading home.
Most sessions take place on Fistral Beach, one of the UK’s best-known surf beaches thanks to its reliable swell and wide sandy shoreline. Conditions here are suitable for beginner progression throughout much of the year, while nearby Tolcarne Beach provides an alternative location when smaller or more sheltered surf conditions are preferred.
Positioned on Cornwall’s north coast, Newquay has a long-standing surf culture and offers excellent access to beaches, coastal walks, cafés, and sea views throughout the town. Direct beach access and dedicated surf facilities help maximise water time while creating a relaxed and practical base for the weekend.
Suitable for complete beginners and newer surfers, the weekend is open to participants aged 8 years and above. Previous surfing experience is not required, although participants should feel reasonably comfortable in the water before joining.
Anyone still working on confidence, standing consistently, or understanding basic surf technique will benefit from the repeated coaching and structured progression throughout the two days.
Multiple coached sessions across a full weekend allow surfers to progress much faster than they typically would during a single lesson. Regular feedback, repeated practice, and detailed video analysis help participants understand their surfing more clearly while building confidence through constant water time.
Experienced Level 2 ISA instructors, direct access onto Newquay’s surf beaches, quality equipment, and flexible coaching locations all help create a supportive learning environment throughout the weekend. Coaching remains focused on helping each surfer improve at their own pace while keeping sessions approachable and enjoyable.
