Bringing together giant paddleboarding and coasteering into one combined adventure, MonsterSTEERING sessions take groups from the sheltered harbour out along the coastline for a mix of paddling, swimming, climbing and exploration. Using the 8-man Monster SUP as transport along the coast, the experience blends teamwork and coastal adventure into one action-packed session.
Meeting at the harbour base, participants begin with a safety briefing before getting fitted with winter wetsuits, helmets, buoyancy aids and paddles. Once everyone is ready, the instructors lead the group onto the beach for warm-up exercises and paddle drills before launching the 8-man Monster SUP into the sheltered waters of Newquay Harbour.
The session starts with a guided Monster SUP paddle along the coastline, allowing the group to work together while learning how to steer and control the board as a crew. After leaving the calmer harbour waters, the adventure continues towards rocky sections of coast where the coasteering element begins. Along the route, participants climb across rocks, explore caves, swim through sea channels and take part in cliff jumps where conditions allow.
Moving between paddleboarding and coasteering throughout the trip keeps the experience varied, with the Monster SUP acting as both transport and floating base between different sections of coastline. Guides adapt the route according to tides and sea conditions while sharing local knowledge about the area, wildlife and hidden coastal features. Returning to shore, there’s time for a debrief before heading back to base for showers and changing facilities.
Launching directly from Newquay Harbour allows the session to begin within sheltered calm water before progressing gradually onto more exposed coastal sections. The harbour provides an ideal starting point for groups to build confidence on the Monster SUP before exploring further along the coastline.
From the water, the coastline reveals hidden areas often missed from land, including caves, rocky inlets and clear water swimming spots. Combining paddleboarding and coasteering gives participants the chance to experience this stretch of Cornwall from a completely different perspective.
No previous paddleboarding or coasteering experience is required, although participants should feel comfortable around water and prepared for an active session involving paddling, swimming and climbing over rocks.
The session requires a minimum of four participants to operate. Younger participants should be reasonably confident in the water and able to follow instructor guidance throughout the activity.
Using years of experience across paddleboarding, coasteering and coastal guiding, the team has developed a session that combines several adventure activities into one flowing experience. The mixture of exploration, teamwork and ocean activity helps create a session suited to adventurous beginners as well as more experienced participants.
Mel brings extensive experience within watersports and adventure activities, helping groups choose suitable sessions while ensuring everything runs smoothly from arrival through to the end of the trip. Operating from Newquay Harbour also provides direct access to sheltered teaching water and varied coastal routes nearby.

The large 8-man Monster SUP board provides a stable platform that works well for adventurous beginners and mixed ability groups.
Depending on sea conditions, the session can include cave exploration, low-level climbing, scrambling, wild swimming and cliff jumping. Guides assess conditions carefully before choosing suitable areas for the group.
Every session feels slightly different because the tides and swell influence which sections of coastline can be explored safely.
No, cliff jumping is completely optional throughout the session. Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace and only take part in elements they feel comfortable attempting.
Alternative routes are available wherever possible so everyone can continue enjoying the activity regardless of confidence levels.
The Monster SUP requires enough paddling power and balance to move effectively along the coastline. A minimum of four participants helps ensure the board operates safely and maintains the teamwork element of the session.
Smaller groups may sometimes be able to join another booking depending on availability.
Participants should wear swimwear underneath the wetsuit provided and bring lace-up trainers suitable for getting wet during the coasteering sections. A towel and warm clothes for afterwards are also recommended.
Waterproof sunblock is useful during warmer weather, especially during longer periods on the water.
