Watch the sun rise over the Red City from a hot air balloon, then swap dawn skies for desert dunes with an Agafay evening of quad biking, camel riding and a Berber dinner under the stars. This full day combines two of the region's signature experiences into one smoothly organised outing.
The day begins before sunrise with a transfer out to the launch site, where the balloon is inflated as the sky begins to lighten. After a calm passenger flight with a licensed pilot, a Berber breakfast follows and a couple of hours are built in to rest before the second half of the day.
In the afternoon the setting shifts to the Agafay Desert for a camel ride, a shared quad biking session of around one hour, and a three course traditional Moroccan dinner with live Berber music and a fire show. Full detail on each stage is set out in the itinerary below.
The hot air balloon launches from open plains just outside Marrakech, where flat ground and steady early morning air currents make for reliable, scenic flying with views back towards the Atlas Mountains. In the afternoon the setting shifts to the Agafay Desert, an area of rocky, dune-like terrain around forty minutes from the city used for many of the region's desert camps thanks to its dramatic scenery, without the long drive south to the Sahara.
Both locations are reached by road from Marrakech, with transfers between the city, the balloon site and the desert camp included as part of the day. Guests staying in riads within the medina that cannot be reached directly by vehicle should check the alternative meeting points below.
No previous ballooning, quad biking or desert experience is needed. The balloon flight is a passenger experience led by a licensed pilot, and the quad session opens with a short safety briefing covering the controls before anyone sets off.
Basic mobility is required to climb into the balloon basket and to sit on a quad or camel. Let the team know in advance about any mobility concerns so the day can be adapted where possible, and mention infants or young children when booking so suitability can be confirmed honestly.
Guides and pilots involved in this day are experienced across both the ballooning and desert sides of the operation, and the itinerary is built to avoid a rushed schedule, with a genuine rest period of a couple of hours between the two halves of the day.
Small group numbers keep both the balloon basket and the desert camp feeling personal rather than crowded, with a maximum of 15 travellers. Pickup and return transfers for both halves of the day are included, so there is no need to arrange separate taxis between the balloon flight and Agafay.
