Fear, falling, and focus—if you find yourself feeling nervous on lead, this session is designed to help you build confidence and take control of your mindset. Whether you're hesitant about taking falls, struggling with commitment on routes, or just want to improve your mental approach, this coaching session will give you practical techniques to manage fear and climb with more trust in yourself and your abilities.
This session is all about addressing the psychological aspects of lead climbing in a supportive and structured way. We'll begin with a discussion to identify specific fears or challenges you may be facing. Whether it's fear of falling, hesitation on committing moves, or struggling to stay focused, the session will be tailored to your needs.
From there, we’ll work on practical drills to help manage fear and improve confidence. This might include controlled falls, breathing exercises, mental reframing techniques, or movement drills to encourage smoother and more committed climbing. Throughout the session, you’ll receive personalised feedback and coaching to help you shift your mindset and gain practical strategies that you can apply in your future climbing.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how to work with your fears rather than against them, allowing you to push yourself further in your lead climbing with a more positive and controlled approach.
The session takes place in Barnet at an indoor climbing centre with a range of lead routes suitable for confidence-building exercises. The venue provides a safe and controlled environment to work on falling drills, commitment, and mental strategies without external distractions.
With a mix of route options available, we can tailor the session to your ability and comfort level.
Participants must have prior lead climbing experience, including the ability to tie in and belay safely. You do not need to be an advanced climber, but you should be comfortable leading routes and keen to work on improving your mindset.
Coaching sessions are delivered by a qualified Rock Climbing Development Instructor (RCDI) and Development Coach with a strong focus on creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. The aim is to help climbers feel safe, build confidence, and develop independence, whether climbing indoors or outdoors. With a particular emphasis on working with women and those affected by mental health challenges, these sessions go beyond just technique—they are about supporting your overall growth as a climber.
By working with an experienced coach who understands the mental barriers that come with lead climbing, you'll gain practical strategies tailored to your needs. Whether you're looking to overcome fear, trust your gear, or simply push yourself further, this session will provide the tools and support to help you progress in a way that feels right for you.
