Start a structured outdoor climbing pathway on a Mountain Training Rock Skills Introduction day designed for young people aged 10 and over. You will top-rope, belay, abseil and boulder on Yorkshire crags with clear coaching on kit, calls and crag etiquette.
Your instructor begins with an engaging kit check and safety briefing, introducing harnesses, helmets, and rope terminology in clear, easy-to-understand steps. You will spend the day top-roping natural routes, practicing belaying under direct supervision, trying abseils, and exploring bouldering problems on real rock.
Practical coaching blocks allow plenty of time to repeat skills, ask questions, and build confidence at height without feeling rushed. Instructors adapt the difficulty of routes to suit each youngster, celebrating every breakthrough as they master movement on Yorkshire gritstone.
Courses take place at accessible Yorkshire gritstone crags such as Brimham Rocks, Ilkley Moor, or Shipley Glen, selected according to local weather forecasts and group ability. These venues feature short walk-ins, diverse rock shapes, and forgiving beginner lines.
We confirm the exact crag car park, What3Words location, and timings well before your course date. Approaches follow natural moorland paths, so participants should arrive wearing sturdy outdoor footwear and dressed in weather-appropriate layers.
No previous outdoor climbing is necessary. Young people need basic mobility for moorland paths and enthusiasm to follow safety routines.
Please notify us of any medical conditions, injuries, or height anxiety during booking so we can tailor our coaching approach. Parents complete consent information before the day.
We specialise in youth outdoor climbing, with DBS-checked coaches who keep belays tight while the atmosphere stays fun. Session pace follows the group energy without cutting corners on kit checks or calls.
Our tutors are fully qualified Mountain Training professionals with enhanced DBS checks and specialised experience coaching young people. We maintain small group sizes so every participant receives close attention, direct belay supervision, and plenty of climbing time.
Meet at Brimham Rocks car park, Brimham Rocks car park, North Yorkshire HG3 4DW. Allow extra time for moorland or crag approaches from the car park.
We send final directions, parking details and arrival time before your session.
