Come along for a peaceful morning adventure that blends hillwalking with wild swimming in the heart of the Northumberland National Park. This experience is designed to take you off the beaten track to a secluded waterfall pool, where you can unwind and connect with nature. Whether you're looking for a personal escape or a chance to share the outdoors with others, this guided session offers a calm yet invigorating experience.
Our session begins at 10 am at the Wedder Leap car park in Barrowburn, where you'll be greeted by your guide, Hayley. After a brief introduction, we set off on a 5.2-mile circular walk that will lead us through the beautiful landscapes of the Northumberland National Park. The path winds gently uphill, offering amazing views at every turn, with plenty of time to pause and take in the surroundings.
Upon reaching the hidden waterfall, you'll have the chance to change into your swimwear and step into the refreshing waters of the secluded pool. The experience of wild swimming here is both calming and revitalising, with the sound of cascading water creating a peaceful atmosphere. The water is deep and cool, providing a perfect spot for a swim, whether you're a seasoned wild swimmer or trying it for the first time.
After swimming, we'll enjoy a relaxed walk back to the car park, completing our adventure around midday. The entire session is paced to suit the group, ensuring everyone can fully enjoy both the walk and the swim.
This experience takes place in the Barrowburn area of the Northumberland National Park, a gorgeous location known for its rolling hills, lush valleys, and pristine natural beauty. The park offers a true escape from urban life, with the waterfall pool being one of its hidden gems.
The walk begins and ends at the Wedder Leap car park, conveniently located for those driving in from nearby towns or further afield.
Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness to comfortably complete the 5.2-mile walk, which includes some uphill sections.
Prior experience with wild swimming is not required, but you should be comfortable with the thought of swimming in cold water. Children aged 8-17 are welcome but must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Led by Hayley, a dedicated Wild Swimming Walking Guide and Outdoor Adventure Therapist, this experience is more than just an outdoor activity—it's a journey of personal reflection and connection with nature. After navigating her own journey of profound loss, Hayley now uses her extensive experience in hillwalking and wild swimming to support and guide others.
With qualifications in open water safety, rescue, and outdoor first aid, you can trust that you're in safe and knowledgeable hands. Whether you’re seeking solace, adventure, or simply a new experience, Hayley's compassionate guidance makes this session truly unique.
You’ll need to bring swimwear, a towel, swimming or diving shoes to protect your feet, and warm clothing for after your swim. We recommend wearing layers, as temperatures can vary throughout the day.
Sturdy walking shoes or boots are essential for the 5.2-mile hike, and it's a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket in case of rain.
Don’t forget to pack some water and snacks to keep your energy up during the walk.
No prior experience in wild swimming is required. The session is designed to accommodate both beginners and those with more experience. Your guide, Hayley, is trained in open water safety and rescue and will provide guidance on how to enter the water safely and enjoy your swim.
However, you should be comfortable with the thought of being in cold water, as the waterfall pool can be quite refreshing!
The walk is of moderate difficulty and covers a total distance of 5.2 miles. The route includes some uphill sections, but they are not steep and we will take our time to ensure everyone is comfortable.
A reasonable level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
The session will proceed in most weather conditions, as a bit of rain or wind is all part of the outdoor experience! However, if severe weather is forecast, such as strong winds or heavy rain that could make the walk unsafe, we may need to reschedule the session.
In such cases, you will be notified in advance, and we will arrange an alternative date or offer a refund.
