Get out onto the lake with a guided paddleboarding session that combines learning new skills with time exploring the water. This experience is ideal for beginners and those looking to build confidence, all while enjoying one of the Lake District’s most popular locations.
You’ll start by meeting your instructor at Coniston Water, where you’ll be provided with all the equipment needed for the session. After a short introduction and safety briefing, you’ll learn how to carry and handle your board and paddle before heading onto the water. The first stage focuses on building confidence, beginning with prone paddling and understanding how the board moves.
As the session progresses, you’ll move from kneeling to standing, learning proper stance and positioning. Your instructor will guide you through paddling techniques, helping you travel efficiently while staying balanced. You’ll also cover turning, awareness of your surroundings, and how to fall safely and get back onto the board.
Once everyone is comfortable, the session transitions into a guided paddle across the lake. You’ll spend time exploring Coniston Water, putting your new skills into practice while moving at a steady pace. With small group sizes, there’s plenty of opportunity for individual guidance, making it easier to improve as you go.
Coniston Water is located in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, known for its lakes, open landscapes, and access to outdoor activities. The lake offers a mix of wider open sections and more sheltered areas, making it well suited for guided paddleboarding sessions.
The surrounding area includes traditional villages, walking routes, and access to nearby spots such as Windermere. It’s a popular destination for both day trips and longer stays, offering a good balance of activity and places to relax after your time on the water.
Participants should be aged 13 or over and have a basic level of fitness and mobility to take part comfortably. No previous paddleboarding experience is required, as this session is suitable for beginners.
You should feel comfortable around water and be prepared to get wet during the session. Following safety instructions is important to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
The centre focuses on small group sessions, allowing instructors to provide clear guidance and support throughout. This approach helps participants progress at a steady pace while building confidence on the water.
All instructors are fully qualified and experienced in leading paddleboarding sessions in the Lake District. High-quality equipment is provided, and each session is designed to balance learning with time exploring the lake in a relaxed setting.
Participants are advised to wear a swimming costume, old shorts over the wetsuit, and suitable footwear that offers good grip, such as trainers. Flip flops, crocs, and sandals are not appropriate for paddleboarding.
It’s also recommended to bring a towel and a change of clothes for after the session, as well as a water bottle to stay hydrated.
No previous experience is necessary. Our guided tour is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers.
Your instructor will provide a thorough briefing on the basics of paddleboarding, including paddling techniques and safety measures, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident on the water.
The paddleboarding tour requires a medium level of fitness and mobility.
While it is accessible to most individuals, participants should be comfortable with moderate physical activity. If you have any concerns about your fitness level or mobility, please consult with us before booking.
Our tours accommodate up to 8 participants per group.
This smaller group size allows for personalised instruction and ensures that everyone receives adequate attention and guidance from the instructor throughout the session.
The minimum age for participation in the tour is 13 years.
For children aged 10-12, we recommend booking a private session to ensure a more tailored experience with increased instructor support.

The Ghyll scramble was well led by Dan both from a safety and enjoyment view point. The only down side was there was nowhere private to get changed into and out of our swim gear. Due to embarrassment my 12 year old ended up walking 2 miles in wet gear…
