The Firth of Clyde and Connected Sea Lochs

Over 50 sites accessible from the shoreline, suitable for all levels. These include:

  • 13 Mile Reef: Beautiful wall dive from 22m down to beyond 50m (we are still exploring this site). Lots of sea life including the Fireworks Anemone.
  • 29 Steps: Critter hunting site with a platform for skills and various oases of life on a muddy shore. Mostly dived to 18m unless looking for Langoustine.
  • A Frames: The remains of an old pier that has created an artificial reef with structures down to 30m. Some rise like monoliths from the sea bed.
  • Anchor Point: A great dive site to explore with a two-pronged rocky reef extending from 5m down to 26m. Provides a great introduction to tidal diving.
  • Camp Crab: Big muddy slope with rocky reefs on either side down to a desired depth. Down to 30m there are lots of Shore Crabs and Squat Lobsters.
  • Carrick Castle: A shallow mud flat dive full of rocky outcrops of life and plenty of langoustines. Great for the newly qualified diver with depths to 12m.
  • Carrick Castle Reef: A beautiful rocky reef at 6-10m full of anemones and sponges. Great for building time in the water and practicing with the camera.
  • Conger Alley: Rocky reefs on a muddy shore from 12m to 30m. Great for vertebrates including Congers, Goldsinny, Dogfish and more.
  • Craggen: Good deep dive training spot with boulder slopes running to 32m. Beautiful Plumose Anemones are found here.
  • Sealey Reef: A beautiful and comfortable dive site with both shallow (12m) and deep (28m) rocky reefs full of invertebrate life.
  • SS Kintyre: Tidal wreck dive on an 1868 steamship. Sank 1907 following a collision leaving her bow at a depth of 30m and stern at 50m.
  • The Caves: A rocky wall dive that drops down to 32m with an interesting entry and exit. Gullies, drops and overhangs are a haven for life.
  • Twin Piers: A couple of small shallow wrecks including a truck and 20-foot boat. Great for hunting critters and shallow at under 15m.

  • Wemyss Bay Pipe: Tidal shore dive providing a feast of sea life on a gently sloping shore down to 30m with an adventurous entry and exit.

Eyemouth to the Firth of Forth

A wreck diver’s paradise with more than 45 sites, primarily beyond 25 meters. Wrecks include:

  • Glanmire: Built in 1888 this 1141-ton steamer sank in 1912 after running aground on the Black Carr Rocks. At 242ft long she is a fair-sized wreck at a depth of 34m.
  • U74E: This German U-boat from World War One sits in 45m of water. The mine laying apparatus is still distinguishable. She was sunk in May 1916 by Royal Navy trawlers.
  • River Garry: Lying in 28 metres of water this wreck is fairly broken up following its loss in hurricane-force winds back in 1893. One of the boilers is still intact.
  • Scotia: A bucket dredger at 45m that sank in 1893 while under tow from Eyemouth to Granton. The dredging machinery is still relatively intact.
  • The President: A shallow wreck down to 20m that can be found just south of Eyemouth. She ran aground in 1928 due to thick fog and her boiler still sits upright in 12m of water.
  • Alfred Earlandsen: A 200ft long coastal steamer from Denmark that went down in 1907 due to coastal fog and rough seas. She sits among rocky pinnacles from 12m – 15m.
