Canoeing along the Llangollen Canal is a brilliant way to explore the Welsh countryside and discover its rich history. With seven hours to paddle at your own pace, you’ll have time to take in the impressive landmarks, including aqueducts, tunnels, and rolling landscapes. This session offers an ideal balance of adventure and relaxation, making it perfect for individuals, families, or small groups.
Your adventure begins in Llangollen, where you’ll be introduced to the canal and your canoe. From there, you’ll set off to explore the peaceful waterways of the Llangollen Canal. Along the way, you’ll paddle past lush countryside, wooded areas, and rolling hills, with plenty of opportunities to soak up the sights and sounds of nature.
The highlight of the day is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Spanning over 300 metres and standing almost 40 metres high, this incredible structure offers amazing views of the Dee Valley. You’ll also navigate through two tunnels, including the Chirk Tunnel, affectionately known as ‘the darkie,’ adding an extra sense of adventure to your journey.
The day also includes the chance to pass by the Chirk Aqueduct, another feat of engineering that connects seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or completely new to canoeing, the canal offers a gentle, manageable route perfect for taking in the scenery at your own pace.
