Our 9 year old had a fab time with her two instructors and was able to stand and surf by the end of one lesson!

A private instructor works with your family or group for an hour and a half on Harlyn Bay, at a pace that fits the youngest and the most experienced in the same booking. The lesson is yours, not a mixed open group. Children from 7 can come, which is younger than the open beginner lesson.
The plan follows the mix of ages you booked. After a short land drill, the coach stays with you in the water for the rest of the hour and a half. Feedback comes between sets, so a child who needs shallower water and an adult who already paddles can still share the same session.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to change. One coach covers up to eight people. If you have more than eight, we add another instructor so nobody waits on the sand. Leave bags in the car; we can hold keys.
Harlyn Bay is a wide sandy beach a short drive from Padstow, with shallow water that suits a mixed-age family. The base is on the sand next to the pay-and-display car park, so you change at the beach rather than walking kit from the village.
Toilets and two food outlets sit in the car park. Lifeguards cover the bay from Easter to September. Dogs are allowed on this beach if someone is staying on the sand.
Children from 7 are welcome. No prior surfing is needed, and people who already paddle can use the same hour and a half to work on turns. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the booking.
Bring swimwear, a towel and warm clothes. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine in summer. Get changed before you arrive if you want to skip the queue at the base.
A private booking means the coach is only thinking about your people. Chris has run this beach since 1994, and the school is licensed by Cornwall Council and the Adventure Activities Licensing Service. Instructors are lifeguards as well as coaches.
That matters when a seven-year-old is in the white water next to a parent who already stands. You get one plan for the family, not a script written for strangers.
Meet at the beach base on Harlyn Bay, PL28 8PD, next to the large pay-and-display car park.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your start time.
The coach is only with the people you booked. The plan follows your mix of ages, and a child from 7 can come, which the open beginner lesson does not allow.
If you are happy sharing a peak with other first-timers, the open lesson is the simpler booking. Private is for families and groups who want the hour and a half to themselves.
The booking starts at four people. One coach covers up to eight. Beyond that we add another instructor so the ratio stays the same.
Tell us the headcount when you book so we have the right number of coaches and suits. Turning up with extra people on the day is how someone ends up without a board that fits.
Seven. That is younger than the open group, because the coach can stay in shallower water and go at that child's pace.
An adult should be on the booking with a young child. If you have a mix of ages, say so, and we will put the family on a patch of beach that works for the youngest.

From Padstow it is about five minutes by car. Toilets and two food outlets are in the car park. Leave bags in the vehicle. We can hold keys.
A surfboard, a wetsuit and the safety gear the coach uses. You can wear your own full-length suit in summer if you prefer.
Leave phones and bags in the car. If a child needs an inhaler in the water, give it to the coach. They carry a waterproof bag to the shore.
Say so when you book. The coach can put a more experienced person on a slightly different peak while staying with a first-timer in the shallows.
If the whole group already catches unbroken waves, ask about an intermediate session instead. This listing is built for mixed families as much as for first stands.
Rain alone rarely stops a lesson. We cancel for strong wind, a heavy swell, or a bay that is not safe for the youngest in your group, then we rearrange or offer another activity if one is free.
If you are driving a long way, message us the day before. Conditions here change in an afternoon.
Swimwear, a towel, warm dry clothes and sunscreen. Changing into swimwear before you arrive keeps the base moving when a family of four or more turns up together.
Leave spare bags in the car. The two food outlets in the car park are there afterwards if you want something warm.
Yes, if you meet the minimum of four. Tell us the number of people and we will add coaches so nobody waits on the sand. The booking stays private to your group.
Ask early in summer. Those slots fill when the bay is busy, and we would rather have the right number of coaches than squeeze eight strangers onto one peak.
The large beach car park sits next to the school and is pay and display. Arrive with time to park, especially on a summer morning.
It is one of the easier school car parks on this coast, but it still fills. Leave Padstow with time to spare so you are not late for the brief.

We bought this for our children and their partners. Chris was absolutely brilliant with them all and they had a great time. Would definitely book again and highly recommend!
Chris the guide was absolutely lovely. Calm and supportive and judged making the adventure the right level of fun and excitement.
A great experience from start to finish. Very knowledgeable and welcoming instructors - despite being in open water, they helped with a diabetic hypo with ease and professionalism. They both helped each group member if they had fears or wanted to complete obstacle again. A really really great day, lovely…
Fantastic coasteering session with Reece Harlyne bay really enjoyed ourselves, thank you very much.
Chris was brilliant, took us through the process step by step and gave us the confidence to stand up on the board. Highly recommended

The whole booking of the introduction to Paddle boarding was really good. Apart from double booking myself, but Kat was really helpful in sorting this out. The communication was excellent and gave us clear instructions on what to wear and bring. Chris who did our session was so lovely, helpful…
