Set off from Sharm El Sheikh into the Sinai desert and mountains on this guided buggy trip, with a stop along the way for traditional Bedouin tea. Buggies are shared side by side rather than driven solo, which suits couples, families and small groups wanting a taste of off-road driving without previous experience.
After pickup, the group travels to the edge of the desert for a safety briefing before setting off in the buggies across sand and rougher mountain tracks. The route is guided throughout, with the group kept together rather than left to ride ahead independently.
Partway through, everyone stops at a Bedouin tent to rest and drink traditional tea, with a chance to sit in the shade and hear a little about desert life. The drive then continues back towards Sharm El Sheikh.
The desert and mountains behind Sharm El Sheikh give way quickly from the resort strip to open, undulating sand and rocky outcrops, with the terrain shifting from soft dunes to firmer, stonier ground the further you go.
The Bedouin tea stop adds a change of pace partway through the route, with simple tents set up away from the road where you can sit, drink tea and hear about life in the desert before continuing. It is a quieter contrast to the driving sections either side of it.
No previous off-road driving experience is required, as the route is guided and buggies are driven side by side rather than alone.
A valid driving licence is generally expected for whoever takes the wheel, so it is worth checking this when booking if you plan to drive.
This trip packs a proper off-road driving experience and a cultural stop into a short window, making it easy to fit around a beach holiday without giving up a whole day.
The shared, side by side buggy format is more approachable for families than a solo quad bike, with fuel and guiding included so there is little to arrange beyond pickup.
