Ras Mohammed National Park and White Island rank among the best known dive and snorkel sites on Egypt's Red Sea coast, and a full day on the water is the easiest way to see both. Guests join a boat departing from Sharm El Sheikh for a day split between snorkelling over coral reefs and an introductory dive for anyone who wants to go deeper, with lunch and soft drinks served on board.
Once guests board, the boat sets off from Sharm El Sheikh towards Ras Mohammed and White Island. When anchored, guests can snorkel directly from the boat over reef systems home to a wide range of marine life, while those booked onto the introductory dive get kitted up and briefed by an instructor beforehand.
Lunch and soft drinks are served on board between stops, giving everyone a chance to dry off and rest before the afternoon session. As the day winds down, the boat heads back towards Sharm El Sheikh, with guests transferred back to their hotels once ashore.
At the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Ras Mohammed National Park marks where the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba meet, creating some of the richest reef systems on this stretch of the Red Sea. White Island is a small sandbar nearby with shallow, clear water that suits snorkellers of every level, making the pair a natural match for a single day trip.
Both sites are protected areas, kept largely free from development, so the marine life and reef structures remain in good condition compared with busier spots closer to the resorts. Travelling out by boat also means calmer water and better visibility than shore-based snorkelling in most cases.
No diving certification or previous experience is needed for the introductory dive, which is fully guided by an instructor from start to finish. Basic swimming ability is recommended for the snorkelling sections, since guests spend time in open water away from the boat.
Anyone with health conditions that could affect diving, such as heart or lung problems, should check with a doctor before booking the dive element. A swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and a hat are worth packing for the day.
Covering both Ras Mohammed and White Island in a single day gives guests a wider variety of marine scenery than a single-site trip, without needing to book two separate excursions.
Having lunch and soft drinks included on board keeps the day simple, and pairing snorkelling with an optional introductory dive means both confident swimmers and complete beginners to diving are well catered for.
