Take your first breath underwater in the protected waters of Madeira’s eastern peninsula. This beginner-friendly experience combines theory, shallow-water training, and a real sea dive at Ponta de São Lourenço.
The experience begins with a classroom-style briefing covering how scuba equipment works, basic safety procedures, and what to expect underwater. The session is practical and designed to build confidence before entering the water.
You’ll then complete a shallow-water training session to practise essential skills in a controlled environment. Under instructor supervision, you’ll learn how to breathe comfortably through the regulator, clear your mask, and manage buoyancy before progressing to the sea.
Once comfortable, you’ll enter the open water for your first ocean dive. The dive lasts approximately 45–50 minutes and reaches a maximum depth of 12 metres. Guided at all times, you’ll explore volcanic reef formations and local marine life in the protected waters of Ponta de São Lourenço.
This experience takes place at Marina da Quinta do Lorde in Caniçal, providing direct access to the eastern dive sites of Ponta de São Lourenço. The proximity to the dive area reduces transit time and allows more focus on the in-water session.
The region is known for its volcanic underwater landscape and clear Atlantic conditions, offering a controlled yet authentic open water environment for beginners.
Participants must be at least 12 years old and able to swim independently. No previous diving experience is required. A medical questionnaire will be sent automatically and must be completed before the session.
This activity is not suitable for pregnant travellers or individuals with heart, respiratory, circulatory, or certain psychological conditions. Flying is not permitted within 12 hours after diving.
The programme is structured to move gradually from theory to shallow water and then to the sea, reducing pressure and allowing beginners to build confidence step by step.
Small group limits ensure close supervision, personalised instruction, and clear communication throughout the session. All scuba equipment is included, allowing you to focus entirely on learning and experiencing your first dive.
