A private two-dive boat trip to the protected waters of Ponta de São Lourenço, designed for certified divers seeking flexibility, space, and direct access to some of Madeira’s best eastern dive sites. With exclusive use of the boat, you set the pace while exploring volcanic reefs, walls, and possible wreck sites.
The trip begins with a 09:00 check-in at the marina in Caniçal before boarding your private vessel. After equipment setup and briefing, the skipper heads towards the protected area of Ponta de São Lourenço, an eastern peninsula known for clear water and varied topography.
Two guided dives are conducted at sites selected according to conditions and diver experience. The area offers volcanic rock formations, drop-offs, swim-throughs, and occasional wrecks such as the Newton or Forerunner. Average depths range from 15–20 metres, with deeper profiles available where appropriate. Visibility is typically excellent, and marine life may include large groupers, barracuda, rays, and, on rare occasions, sightings of the Mediterranean monk seal.
Surface intervals are taken onboard with water and light refreshments provided. Non-divers are welcome to join the trip and can snorkel using provided equipment. The private format allows the itinerary to remain flexible, with site choice and timing adapted to the group.
Diving takes place within the protected marine area of Ponta de São Lourenço, one of Madeira’s most environmentally regulated coastal zones. The area benefits from reduced fishing activity, supporting healthy marine ecosystems and stable underwater visibility.
Departure is from Marina da Quinta do Lorde in Caniçal, located close to the dive sites, reducing travel time and maximising in-water experience. Facilities for showers and changing are available after the dive.
Participants must hold a recognised Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) and have logged at least six dives. Certification must be presented digitally or physically on arrival.
Divers who have not dived within the past 12 months are required to complete a refresher session before joining this trip. A standard diving medical declaration applies.
The private charter format provides exclusive use of the boat, allowing greater flexibility in dive planning and a relaxed pace between dives. With a maximum guide ratio of 6:1, divers receive close supervision and site-specific briefings tailored to experience level.
Access to high-quality equipment, 12-litre tanks filled to 200 bar, and direct proximity to the protected dive sites ensures efficient logistics and maximum dive time. Both diving and non-diving insurance are included for added reassurance.
