Children’s birthdays don’t need to be spent indoors when there’s woodland waiting to be explored. This birthday package combines outdoor adventure with fun learning, giving children the chance to track animals, light fires, cook over flames, and take part in exciting activities. Designed for ages 8–12, but adaptable for younger groups from 6 upwards, it’s an experience they’ll talk about long after the day has finished.
The day begins with a nature walk and scavenger hunt, where children set out in teams to uncover hidden treasures in the woodland. Along the way, they’ll develop observation skills while seeing familiar outdoor spaces in a fresh and exciting way. The hunt is guided to make sure everyone gets involved, and it provides a fun icebreaker that gets the group working together.
Next comes a wildlife tracking expedition. Here, the young adventurers learn to recognise animal footprints, bird calls, and other signs of life around them. These activities not only encourage curiosity about the natural world but also introduce practical skills that have been used for centuries in the outdoors.
The adventure continues with a fire-lighting workshop. Under close supervision, the children will be shown how to create a safe fire using traditional methods. This part of the day always proves to be a favourite, as they take turns building and lighting small fires, learning both responsibility and technique in a hands-on way.
Finally, the group gathers around the fire for cooking. From toasting marshmallows and making hot chocolate to preparing sausages for hot dogs, the session provides a relaxed and rewarding way to close the day. Sharing food outdoors is the perfect chance for everyone to celebrate together, with plenty of laughter and energy left for singing “Happy Birthday” when the cake comes out.
The birthday experience is set in private woodland, providing a safe, natural environment where children can enjoy the outdoors without distraction. With open clearings, shaded woodland paths, and plenty of space to explore, it is the ideal setting for a day of games and adventures.
Away from the busyness of towns and traffic, the woodland offers a real sense of freedom. Children can run, explore, and try new skills while surrounded by nature, making their special day memorable for both them and the adults joining in.
Each group must meet the supervision requirement of at least one adult for every three children. These adults are counted in the overall group size and are invited to take part in every activity alongside the children.
No specialist skills are needed, just a willingness to get involved and enjoy being outdoors. The activities are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all, with guidance and support provided throughout.
