Towering waterfalls, technical descents and narrow rock gorges make Acharn Canyon one of Perthshire's most rewarding canyoning adventures. Created for those looking to take on a more demanding route, this guided experience combines climbing, swimming, scrambling and a spectacular waterfall abseil in an unforgettable Highland setting.
Meeting your guides before travelling to Acharn Canyon, you'll begin by getting fitted with a wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid and technical safety equipment. A thorough safety briefing covers everything you'll need to know, including rope techniques, movement within the canyon and how to safely tackle each obstacle. With small group sizes, your instructors are able to provide plenty of individual guidance throughout the experience.
Progressing through the canyon, you'll scramble over rocks, swim through deep pools and climb your way around natural obstacles before reaching one of the highlights of the day – a 25-metre waterfall abseil. Along the route you'll also encounter technical rope sections, optional jumps, flowing waterfalls and smooth rock slides that have been shaped by centuries of flowing water. Every stage brings a new challenge, making Acharn an ideal choice for adventurous participants looking to experience one of Scotland's more technical canyoning routes.
Positioned on the southern shores of Loch Tay, Acharn Canyon is surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery, woodland and flowing waterfalls. The canyon's steep rock walls and powerful streams have created an exciting natural route that's widely regarded as one of Perthshire's premier canyoning locations.
Only a short drive from Aberfeldy, the area offers spectacular views across Loch Tay and easy access to some of the region's best walking routes and outdoor attractions. It's an excellent location for anyone wanting to experience the wilder side of Highland Perthshire.
Although no previous canyoning experience is required, this is a physically demanding adventure best suited to confident, active participants who are comfortable in water and happy tackling more technical obstacles. The minimum age for this experience is 14 years.
Please bring swimwear to wear beneath your wetsuit, an old pair of trainers suitable for getting wet, a towel and warm clothing for afterwards. A positive attitude and willingness to challenge yourself will help you make the most of the experience.
Backed by decades of experience delivering canyoning adventures across Perthshire, the guiding team combines expert instruction with an excellent knowledge of the area's most exciting routes. Small groups ensure every participant receives personalised coaching while maintaining the highest standards of safety throughout the day.
From professionally maintained equipment to carefully planned routes and experienced canyon leaders, every aspect of the experience is designed to help you enjoy Acharn Canyon with confidence. Whether you're looking to tackle your first major abseil or simply want a more advanced canyoning adventure, you'll be in capable hands from start to finish.
While no previous canyoning experience is necessary, Acharn is considered a more challenging canyon than introductory routes. The experience involves longer periods of scrambling, swimming and technical rope work, making it better suited to active participants who enjoy outdoor adventure.
Your guides provide full instruction throughout the day, but a good level of confidence around water and uneven terrain will help you enjoy the experience.
We recommend wearing swimwear underneath the provided wetsuit. Bring old shoes (to get wet) and a non-cotton T-shirt. Depending on the weather, warm clothing may be needed before and after the trip.
Yes, participants must be at least 14 years old to join the adventure. This ensures safety and suitability for the activities involved.
Acharn Canyoning involves a mix of activities including jumping, swimming, climbing, and abseiling. While a moderate level of fitness is recommended, participants of varying abilities can enjoy the experience.
Yes, if you require accommodation, please contact us via the Adventuro chat to enquire about the various options available.
The waterfall abseil is the highlight of the experience and offers an exciting but carefully controlled descent alongside one of the canyon's most impressive waterfalls. Before beginning, your instructors will explain the technique, check your equipment and guide you through every stage of the descent.
Because you're attached to a professionally managed rope system, the abseil is completed under close supervision, allowing you to focus on enjoying the experience while your guides manage the technical aspects.

Absolutely awesome morning out. Klaudia was a great instructor, and it was great that it was on the river with some faster flowing water.. Only remark: It could have been a bit longer (it was more 2-hours then 3-hours), it was so much fun, we wouldn't have minded it was…
So much fun! We had a fabulous day and thoroughly recommend this - thank you x
