



This three-day route takes you deep into the Brecon Beacons, linking Wales’ highest road, quiet upland valleys, long gravel descents and peaceful towpaths. Daily distances are achievable for riders with good fitness, with a balanced mix of tarmac and unpaved sections beneath the National Park’s biggest peaks. The journey blends physical challenge with relaxed stretches where you can enjoy the scenery, small towns and local cafés.
Expect a satisfying mix of long climbs, exposed high sections, short hike-a-bike moments and uninterrupted views across one of Wales’ most iconic landscapes. Evenings are spent in welcoming B&B accommodation close to pubs, making this a comfortable yet adventurous long weekend.

This loop from Abergavenny showcases some of the Brecon Beacons’ most dramatic riding. You’ll climb through forested valleys, cross Gospel Pass, roll beneath the biggest peaks in the National Park, follow long gravel sections and finish with a high descent into Talybont-on-Usk. Towpaths, quiet lanes and rural climbs fill the gaps between more demanding terrain. Expect 3–6 hours of riding each day.

Expect:
Day 1 is shorter, allowing time to explore Hay. Day 2 is the demanding day with a long unpaved climb. Day 3 features more gravel but is predominantly downhill.
If cycling isn’t already part of your routine, building fitness through commuting, longer weekend rides or spin classes will make a noticeable difference. Consistency is the key to enjoying the trip.

The experience stays self-guided to keep the freedom and simplicity of bikepacking intact, while offering well-planned support, reliable kit and handpicked accommodation. Meet in Abergavenny at 10am. Exact location is sent in advance. Arrive dressed to ride with kit packed in the dry bag provided. Bike set-up and briefing take 1–1.5 hours.
Return to Abergavenny at approximately 3pm on Day 3. Train travellers should allow at least two hours to return kit and reach the station.
Regular services to Abergavenny with connections via Shrewsbury, Cardiff and Newport. The start point will be within walking distance. Non-essential travel items can be left with the team.
Space on the bike is limited, so bring light, packable clothing. A dry bag is provided and must hold all your kit. The pre-trip call covers any questions.
