This weekend is perfect for anyone aged 18+ who wants to try surfing for the first time or gain more confidence in the water. You’ll enjoy expert coaching, small group support, and the excitement of riding controlled waves in a safe and inspiring environment. Across two days, you’ll progress at your own pace, make new friends, and experience the joy of surfing.
The weekend begins on Friday (for the accommodation package) with check-in at the lodges, giving you time to settle in and prepare for the sessions ahead. Saturday kicks off with an equipment briefing and a dryside lesson to introduce key techniques before heading into the water for the first on-wave session. After a lunch break, you’ll attend a surf theory session, receive personalised dryside feedback, and enjoy another guided surf session on the reef for those ready to progress. Optional group dinner allows time to socialise and reflect on your day.
Sunday continues with equipment preparation and a final dryside lesson, followed by on-water practice. The weekend concludes after lunch, with the opportunity to surf more if you wish. For those choosing the surf-only package, Saturday morning starts directly with equipment briefing and dryside instruction. Both packages include the same coaching sessions and structured progression, with emphasis on fun, support, and confidence-building.
The surf weekend takes place in Newbridge, a short 10-minute drive from Edinburgh Airport, offering excellent road access via the M8 and M9. The wave pool is set within expansive grounds, surrounded by woodland and canal-side paths, providing a serene setting for both learning and relaxation.
Proximity to Edinburgh and Glasgow makes it convenient for travellers while still offering a retreat-like feel. Ample onsite parking, EV charging points, and easy public transport links ensure smooth logistics for your weekend surf experience.
Lodging is available in modern, fully equipped lodges. Rooms are typically shared, with twin rooms allocated single-sex when possible. Single-occupancy options can be arranged upon request, and preferences are considered for groups or friends travelling together. Each lodge has kitchen facilities, allowing for self-catering, with easy access to a café and waterfront bar serving food and drinks from morning to evening.
Guests staying onsite enjoy close proximity to all surf facilities, making it easy to move between sessions and enjoy the weekend without additional travel. Lodges provide communal spaces for socialising, drying equipment, and relaxing between lessons, creating a comfortable base for your surf adventure.
No prior experience is required, making this weekend ideal for complete beginners. Participants should be comfortable in the water and ready to engage with both dryside and in-water lessons. A willingness to learn, practise, and follow coach instructions will help maximise your progress.
A basic level of fitness is recommended as sessions involve active surfing, repeated water entry, and participation in theory and video feedback exercises. Being open to coaching and group interaction ensures you’ll gain confidence and have fun throughout the weekend.
This weekend takes place in a world-class inland surf facility powered by Wavegarden technology, offering consistent, safe waves for all levels. Facilities include extensive grounds for walking, relaxation, and socialising, alongside modern amenities to make your stay enjoyable and convenient.
Experienced coaches deliver structured instruction, personalised feedback, and video analysis to accelerate skill development. Beyond surfing, you can enjoy wellness areas, the surf-skate academy, and the waterfront café, creating a holistic experience that combines fun, learning, and relaxation in a unique Scottish setting.
A lesson gives you guided support from an instructor who will focus on building confidence in the water, showing you how to handle your board, and helping you progress to the next stage of your surfing. This approach keeps things structured, with coaching tailored to the group’s ability so everyone learns at a pace that feels comfortable. In contrast, this session may involve more independent time on the waves depending on what you’ve booked.
A standard session is more about free surfing within a supervised environment. You’ll still have support around you if needed, but the aim is to let you apply your skills and enjoy time on the water. It’s ideal for anyone wanting space to practise rather than follow a coached plan from start to finish.
Changing facilities are available close to where this session is based, providing a warm place to get ready before heading out and somewhere comfortable to warm up afterwards. These areas are designed to be spacious and easy to use, especially for families or anyone managing young children or extra kit.
You’ll find indoor changing rooms with showers, lockers, and amenities such as hair dryers. Everything is arranged so you can store your valuables securely and rinse off after the water without needing to rush.
When this session is running, qualified lifeguards are on duty to monitor the water and keep everyone safe. They work alongside trained surf instructors who handle both the coaching environment and water-based supervision.
Their training covers a wide range of rescue and first-aid skills, ensuring you’re taking part in an activity overseen by professionals who can respond quickly to changing conditions. This gives you the reassurance of having expert support throughout your time in the water.
You’ll need to be able to swim at least 25 metres without any assistance to join this session. This minimum level ensures you’re confident enough to move through the water independently, even if you fall from your board or need to paddle back to a safe area.
Being comfortable in the water is just as important as swimming ability. Having a bit of confidence helps you get more out of the activity, as you’ll be more relaxed while learning new skills or handling waves.
Wetsuits and accessories suitable for local water conditions are provided as part of this session, including additional items like boots, gloves, or a hood when needed. Boards are also supplied so you don’t need to purchase or carry your own equipment unless you want to.
You’re welcome to bring your own wetsuit if you prefer using personal kit, and the team can check it fits the conditions on the day. Bringing a familiar wetsuit can be helpful for regular surfers wanting a consistent feel in the water.
Local water temperatures can vary, and cooler days are always possible. To keep you comfortable, the centre provides thick wetsuits and thermal accessories designed to retain heat during longer sessions.
Even on cold days, these wetsuits offer consistent warmth so you can focus on your time in the waves. Staff will help ensure you’re dressed appropriately before you start.
There is a café, bar, or restaurant near the activity area where you can order food and drinks before or after this session. Seating is available inside, with some spots offering views of the water so you can watch others surf.
Takeaway options are usually available as well, making it easy to grab something quickly between activities. Staff at the venue can guide you through ordering, dietary information, and seating availability.
Yes, this weekend is designed for complete beginners. Coaches will guide you through every step, from equipment preparation to catching your first wave. Dryside sessions and surf theory ensure you understand techniques before heading into the water.
Even if you have no prior surfing experience, small group sizes and personalised coaching make the weekend enjoyable and safe. You’ll receive encouragement, constructive feedback, and plenty of practice time to build confidence.
The surf-only option allows you to join all coaching sessions without booking accommodation. Booking is done via adventuro chat or email, and you’ll follow the same structured itinerary and enjoy the same coaching, theory, and on-water progression.
This option is ideal for local participants or those with alternative accommodation. Surf-only participants have full access to all sessions and group activities, ensuring a consistent learning experience.
Accommodation is in lodges with twin or single rooms, arranged to suit gender preferences and group needs. Each lodge has kitchen facilities and communal areas for socialising, relaxing, and storing equipment.
You can select single-occupancy if desired, or share with friends or fellow participants. Staying onsite allows easy access to surf sessions and a relaxed environment to enjoy the weekend fully.
