Take a break from city life with a 3-night surf-focused getaway in Devon’s popular coastal towns of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. This trip offers three surf lessons led by local experts, along with comfortable beachside accommodation just steps from the sea. The weekend balances active sessions with plenty of downtime to enjoy the fresh sea air and coastal atmosphere.
The weekend begins with an optional coach journey from London, meeting at Hammersmith around 6:30pm on Friday evening. Upon arrival in Devon, you’ll settle into beachside accommodation near Woolacombe Beach, known for its wide sandy shore and reliable surf. Each day features a surf lesson led by experienced instructors who tailor the sessions to individual skill levels, whether you’re new to surfing or building on previous experience. Time between lessons can be spent exploring the beach, practising your moves, or relaxing in the shared accommodation with kitchen facilities.
In addition to surfing, the area offers opportunities for coastal walks and local cafés where you can try Devonshire treats. The accommodation’s kitchen is available for self-catering, allowing flexibility in meal times. The trip finishes with an evening return to London, aiming to arrive by 10pm on Sunday. All surf gear, including wetsuits and boards, is provided to ensure you can focus fully on your sessions without extra hassle.
Ilfracombe and Woolacombe are popular surfing destinations on the North Devon coast, offering consistent Atlantic waves suitable for all levels. Woolacombe, in particular, is famous for its long stretch of sandy beach and reliable surf conditions that attract surfers year-round. The accommodation is situated a short walk from the shoreline, providing easy access to early morning or late afternoon sessions.
The towns offer a welcoming atmosphere with a selection of local shops, eateries, and surf shops to cover any last-minute needs. Woolacombe’s coastal paths and rugged cliffs provide scenic walking routes for downtime, while Ilfracombe has a charming harbour area with galleries and cafés to explore. This combination makes for a well-rounded weekend focused on surf and seaside relaxation.
You will stay in a shared beachside house located close to Woolacombe’s main surf spots. The accommodation is practical and comfortable, designed to suit surfers and active guests. Rooms are shared, with separate sleeping areas for men and women unless specified otherwise. There are communal bathrooms and a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.
The lodge provides a relaxed environment where you can unwind after your lessons or meet others on the trip. Bedding and towels are provided, but you should bring personal items such as toiletries and sunscreen. The close proximity to the beach means you can easily pop back to the house for breaks or to store your equipment safely.
This trip welcomes participants aged 18 and above attending alone, as well as younger guests accompanied by an adult supervisor. No previous surfing experience is necessary, and lessons will accommodate all levels, from complete beginners to intermediate surfers. General fitness and the ability to swim comfortably in open water are recommended to get the most out of the sessions.
Group bookings are encouraged, with a minimum of 5 people required for the trip to proceed. Solo bookings are accepted, but the trip will only run once the minimum group size is reached. All surf equipment is supplied, so you don’t need to bring your own unless preferred.
The organisers focus on creating accessible coastal trips that combine instruction with freedom and fun. Local instructors bring knowledge of the area and conditions, helping participants safely develop their skills at their own pace. This approach supports both novices and more confident surfers, making the weekend suitable for a wide range of abilities.
With practical accommodation near the beach and all kit included, the trip is designed to remove common barriers to surfing holidays. Optional transport from London adds convenience, allowing guests to focus on relaxing and enjoying the coast. The emphasis is on a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere that encourages connection and confidence in the water.
This surf trip is open to all abilities, including those who have never surfed before. The instructors customise lessons to suit each participant’s skill level, ensuring beginners get the basics like paddling and balance, while more experienced surfers can focus on improving their technique and wave selection. The pace is relaxed to allow everyone to progress comfortably.
Those with prior experience will benefit from personalised coaching to refine skills and build confidence in varying surf conditions. The instructors have extensive local knowledge and adapt the sessions according to daily weather and wave quality to get the most from each lesson.
All necessary surf equipment is included in the trip price. This covers wetsuits and a selection of surfboards suited to different abilities and conditions. The gear is well-maintained and suitable for both beginners and intermediate surfers. If you prefer to use your own equipment, you’re welcome to bring it along.
Besides surf gear, you should bring personal items such as towels, sunscreen, and toiletries. The accommodation provides a safe place to store your belongings, including any personal boards or accessories you may bring.
Accommodation is in shared beachside housing located close to Woolacombe Beach. The facilities include shared bedrooms separated by gender unless otherwise requested, communal bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. Bedding is supplied, and the environment is informal and geared toward guests who are active and outdoors-oriented.
This setup encourages a social atmosphere where participants can relax after sessions and share experiences. The proximity to the beach makes it convenient to get to surf lessons or explore the local area during downtime.
If you select the transport option, you’ll meet the group at a central London location in Hammersmith on Friday evening, around 6:30pm. The journey to Devon is by mix of vans/cars, providing a comfortable and convenient way to travel with fellow participants. Specific pick-up details will be sent by email before the trip.
The return journey leaves Devon on Monday evening, aiming to reach London by approximately 10pm. This option is ideal if you prefer not to arrange your own transport or want a hassle-free start and finish to the weekend.
Solo bookings are welcome and quite common. The trip is structured to be inclusive and friendly, making it easy to meet others with similar interests. Group sizes typically range from five to twenty people, fostering a supportive environment without feeling crowded.
However, the trip requires a minimum of five participants to run. If this number isn’t met, you’ll be offered alternatives or a full refund. This ensures the experience is worthwhile and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Besides the wetsuit and board, which are provided, you should bring essentials like a towel, sunscreen, beach footwear, swimwear, and personal toiletries. Comfortable casual clothing for evenings and a water bottle for staying hydrated are also recommended.
Since the accommodation includes kitchen facilities, bringing snacks or groceries for self-catering is advised. Check the weather forecast before packing to prepare for changes in temperature or rain.
These Devon beaches offer reliable waves suitable for a variety of skill levels, making them popular surf destinations. Woolacombe is known for its long, sandy beach with consistent surf, which provides ideal conditions for learning and progression.
The area benefits from a strong local surf community and good facilities such as surf schools and rental shops. The surrounding landscape offers scenic coastal walks and spots to relax between lessons.
Meals are not included, allowing participants the flexibility to eat how and when they prefer. The accommodation has a kitchen where you can prepare your own food, which is convenient for those who like to manage their diet or save on costs.
Alternatively, the local towns have plenty of cafes, pubs, and shops offering a variety of dining options. You can plan meals around your schedule or explore local cuisine during free time.
