Designed for complete beginners and newer surfers wanting faster progression, this two-day surf weekend combines repeated water sessions with detailed coaching, personalised feedback, and plenty of time on the waves. Across the weekend, participants develop core surf skills, improve confidence in the sea, and gain a much stronger understanding of positioning, board control, and wave awareness.
Over the first day, coaching focuses on building strong foundations through a combination of beach instruction and water-based practice. Participants learn the key basics needed to begin surfing properly, including paddling technique, prone surfing, standing methods, and understanding how waves behave. Coaches spend time correcting positioning and body movement early on, helping surfers avoid developing bad habits from the start.
Multiple coached sessions across the weekend allow plenty of opportunities to practise while feedback remains fresh. Smaller group sizes help instructors focus on individual progression, offering advice tailored around each surfer’s confidence and ability level. Time in the sea is balanced with land-based coaching, where participants can review techniques, ask questions, and prepare for the next session.
Video analysis forms an important part of the weekend and helps surfers understand their movement more clearly by reviewing filmed clips with instructors. Coaches explain areas for improvement while highlighting positive progress, helping participants make quicker adjustments in the water afterwards. By the end of the weekend, most surfers feel noticeably more confident with their pop-up, board handling, and overall understanding of surfing fundamentals.
Coaching sessions usually take place on Fistral Beach, one of the UK’s best-known surfing beaches thanks to its reliable swell and spacious sandy shoreline. Depending on surf conditions, nearby Newquay beaches may also be used to ensure the most suitable waves for beginner progression across the weekend.
Surrounded by Cornwall’s dramatic coastline, Newquay offers a relaxed surf atmosphere with coastal walks, cafés, sea views, and plenty of beachside spots to unwind between sessions. Direct access onto the sand helps maximise water time throughout the weekend while keeping the experience easy and enjoyable from arrival onwards.
Suitable for anyone aged 8 years and above, the weekend is designed for complete beginners as well as surfers who have already tried a few lessons but still struggle with confidence or consistent pop-ups. Previous surfing experience is not required.
Participants should feel comfortable in the water and ideally be able to swim at least 25 metres independently. A basic level of fitness will also help when spending multiple sessions in the sea over the two days.
Weekend coaching allows far more time for progression than a standard single lesson, giving instructors the opportunity to build on techniques gradually while providing continuous feedback across multiple sessions. Repetition, video review, and personalised coaching points help surfers improve far quicker than occasional sessions spread across longer periods.
Access to quality equipment, beachside facilities, experienced coaches, and multiple surf locations around Newquay helps create a well-supported learning environment throughout the weekend. With equipment available outside of coached sessions too, participants can continue practising and building confidence between lessons.
Absolutely. The coaching weekend is specifically designed for beginners and newer surfers who want more time and guidance than a single lesson can offer. Sessions start with the foundations of surfing before gradually building confidence and technique over the two days.
Surfers who have already tried a few lessons but still struggle with standing up consistently or understanding waves will also benefit from the repeated coaching and extra practice time.
Participants take part in multiple coached surf sessions across the two days, with several hours spent in the water overall depending on surf conditions and energy levels. Equipment is also available outside of the structured sessions, allowing extra practice time throughout the weekend.
Having repeated sessions close together often helps progression happen much faster than occasional standalone lessons.
Coaches film sections of the surf sessions before reviewing footage with the group afterwards. This allows participants to see their positioning, pop-up technique, balance, and timing more clearly while receiving direct feedback from instructors.
After the weekend, filmed clips and photos are also sent digitally alongside additional coaching feedback to help participants continue improving afterwards.
No personal equipment is required for the weekend. A range of surfboards and wetsuits is included, allowing instructors to select equipment best suited to each participant’s ability level and the surf conditions.
Anyone who already owns a suitable beginner board is welcome to bring it along, although instructors may recommend alternative options depending on progression needs.
Yes, participants can continue using the equipment between coached sessions and after lessons during the weekend. Extra practice time is encouraged as it helps reinforce the coaching points covered throughout the day.
Many surfers find they progress more quickly when they can immediately apply new techniques independently while still feeling fresh in their mind.
Swimwear, towels, sunscreen, comfortable clothing, and drinking water are all recommended for the weekend. Clothing suitable for changing beach weather is also useful, particularly if spending long periods outdoors between sessions.
All technical surf equipment is included, including the surfboard and wetsuit needed for the coaching sessions.
Lunch is included on both days of the surf weekend. This gives participants time to relax between sessions, recover energy, and discuss progress with instructors and the rest of the group.
Accommodation and evening meals are not included within the weekend package.
Most coaching takes place on Fistral Beach due to its reliable surf and excellent beginner conditions. Depending on wave conditions, nearby Newquay beaches may occasionally be used to provide the best learning environment possible.
This flexibility allows instructors to choose the safest and most suitable conditions for progression during the weekend.
