Step onto the water at Loch Faskally and learn paddleboarding in a relaxed, welcoming environment. This session is ideal for first-timers looking to improve their balance and basic paddling skills while enjoying the loch’s peaceful scenery. Enjoy hands-on guidance and plenty of time practising on calm waters.
Sessions begin at Armoury Car Park, where your instructor will greet you and provide all necessary equipment. The first stage includes an on-land briefing covering correct stance, basic paddle strokes, and safety measures. This ensures you are prepared before entering the water.
Once on the loch, you will start kneeling on your board to gain initial balance and practice stroke techniques. The instructor will give personalised guidance to help you feel stable and confident. Small adjustments and feedback help you progress quickly and safely.
After mastering basic skills, you will explore calm sections of the loch under supervision. You can practise turning, controlling speed, and navigating gentle currents. Along the way, enjoy observing local wildlife such as swans, ducks, and occasionally ospreys. The session concludes with a return to shore and optional photos sent to participants.
Loch Faskally is renowned for its tranquil waters, making it ideal for beginners. The surrounding landscape provides a scenic backdrop with plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature while learning. Parking is available nearby, and public transport access makes it convenient for visitors arriving by train or bus.
Meeting points are confirmed a few days before the session, depending on weather conditions, ensuring safety and optimal water conditions. The area is quiet, allowing a focused and relaxed learning environment.
No prior experience is required to take part in this session. Participants should have a general level of fitness to move comfortably on a paddleboard and perform basic manoeuvres.
For those requiring additional support or a more personalised session, private options are available. The instructor can adjust pace, technique instruction, and practice time to match each participant’s needs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
The focus of each session is skill development, confidence-building, and enjoyment in a safe, supportive environment. Personalised attention ensures that every participant learns effectively while having fun.
Small group sizes allow for individual guidance, ensuring techniques are taught correctly and safely. Participants leave with new skills, confidence on the water, and memorable experiences in a scenic Scottish setting.
You’ll need to come prepared for time on the water, so make sure to bring essentials that keep you comfortable before, during, and after your session. A towel and a full change of clothes are recommended in case you get wet, along with swimwear or trunks to wear under a wetsuit. It’s also a good idea to wear shoes that can get wet or bring a spare pair for afterwards.
Snacks and drinks will help keep your energy up, especially on longer sessions. If you take any medication, please ensure you have it with you on the day. And, most importantly, bring a sense of adventure and a willingness to have fun—this makes all the difference on the water.
These activities are open to participants aged 8 and above. This ensures everyone taking part can safely handle the equipment and enjoy the experience. The sessions are designed to be inclusive and family-friendly while still maintaining the right level of supervision and safety for younger participants.
Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian either on the water with them or nearby at the viewing point for the duration of the session. This policy may vary slightly depending on the specific activity or location, but safety and supervision are always the top priority.
All sessions depend on the weather and water conditions to make sure they’re safe and fun for everyone involved. In the case of strong winds, heavy rain, or unsafe water levels, sessions may need to be postponed or moved to a more sheltered location. The decision will always be made with your safety in mind.
If a session has to be rescheduled or relocated, you’ll be contacted in advance with as much notice as possible. The team keeps a close eye on forecasts and conditions, and any changes will be clearly communicated so that you can plan your day with confidence.
Most beginners find they can stand confidently within the first 15–20 minutes. Initial kneeling exercises help develop core stability, while instructor feedback ensures proper posture and foot positioning.
Individual progress varies, but calm loch conditions and small group sizes allow each participant to gain confidence steadily. Regular practice during the session ensures skill improvement by the end.
Yes, participants are guided to explore gentle sections of the loch once confident. You’ll practise turns, stopping safely, and maintaining control over the board in different conditions.
The instructor remains nearby to provide safety guidance, ensuring you can enjoy independent paddling without risk. This builds both confidence and practical experience for future sessions.
You will learn safe falling techniques, how to reboard a board independently, and how to maintain balance in various water conditions. The instructor also covers awareness of nearby hazards and spacing from other paddlers.
These practices give participants the skills to handle unexpected situations, boosting confidence and promoting safe paddleboarding beyond the session.
