Stand up paddle boarding is a fantastic way to discover Highland Perthshire from the water, whether you're looking for a relaxing paddle across a peaceful loch or a gentle journey along the River Tay. Suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, this guided adventure combines learning a new skill with exploring some of Scotland's most scenic waterways.
Your session begins with a warm welcome from your instructor, who will provide all the equipment before taking you through a full safety briefing. Using wide, stable paddle boards, you'll learn the basics of balancing, paddling and turning before heading out onto the water. Even if you've never stood on a paddle board before, the introduction is designed to help you build confidence quickly.
Depending on the conditions and the day's location, you'll explore the calm waters of Loch Tay, Loch Faskally or sections of the River Tay. As your confidence grows, you'll practise different paddle techniques while taking in the surrounding scenery of forests, hills and open water. The experience offers a balance of gentle exercise, relaxation and adventure, with your instructor providing tips and encouragement throughout. Whether you're hoping to improve your skills or simply enjoy time outdoors, it's a memorable way to experience Perthshire from a different perspective.
Based in Aberfeldy, this experience makes the most of some of Highland Perthshire's best paddle boarding locations. Depending on weather and water conditions, sessions take place on Loch Tay, Loch Faskally or the River Tay, each offering its own character and scenery.
The surrounding area is well known for its forests, rolling hills and peaceful waterways, making it an excellent destination for outdoor activities. After your paddle, you'll find plenty of walking routes, cafés and local attractions nearby if you wish to spend more time exploring the area.
No previous paddle boarding experience is required, making this activity suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience. Participants should be at least 8 years old and feel comfortable taking part in water-based activities.
Please bring swimwear to wear beneath your wetsuit, an old pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet, and warm clothing for before and after the session. A non-cotton synthetic T-shirt can also be worn underneath the wetsuit for additional comfort.
With experienced instructors, quality equipment and access to some of Perthshire's finest waterways, every session is designed to help you enjoy paddle boarding in a safe and welcoming environment. Small group sizes allow instructors to offer individual guidance while ensuring everyone progresses at a comfortable pace.
Whether you're looking for your first paddle boarding experience or simply want to spend time exploring Scotland's lochs and rivers, you'll enjoy professional instruction, beautiful surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere throughout your adventure.
Not at all. This experience is designed for complete beginners as well as those who have paddled before. The wide, stable boards make it easier to find your balance, while your instructor explains each technique step by step before you head out.
Throughout the session you'll continue receiving guidance, helping you improve your confidence and technique at your own pace without feeling rushed.
Sessions take place on some of Highland Perthshire's most scenic waterways, including Loch Tay, Loch Faskally and sections of the River Tay. The exact location is chosen according to weather and water conditions to provide the best possible experience.
Each location offers something slightly different, from calm open water that's ideal for learning to gentle river sections where you can put your new skills into practice.
Yes. You'll be provided with everything you need for the activity, including a paddle board, paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid and, when required, a windproof cag.
All equipment is professionally maintained and checked before each session, with instructors ensuring everything fits correctly before entering the water.
Bring swimwear to wear underneath your wetsuit along with an old pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet. These will provide grip while launching and landing your paddle board.
It's also worth bringing warm clothing for before and after your session. If you'd like additional warmth beneath your wetsuit, a synthetic non-cotton T-shirt works well.
Most people are surprised by how quickly they gain confidence. The boards used for these sessions are chosen for their stability, making them well suited to beginners learning the basics.
Your instructor starts with simple techniques on calm water before gradually introducing more skills as your confidence develops, allowing you to progress naturally throughout the session.
