Best teaching ratio in the UK at 6:1, at an award-winning Surfing England Centre of Excellence. This two-day junior beginner and improver camp gives young surfers aged 12-17 four coached sessions with the same progressive standards used across our surf school, including ocean safety, video feedback, and plenty of time in the whitewater and line-up.
Coaches cover ocean safety, paddling, popping up, and riding white water, with time to progress towards green waves if you are ready. Each day includes check-in at Baggy Lodge, kit fitting, a beach safety brief, coached water time, then hot showers and a debrief where video clips help young surfers see their progress.
Even if you have never surfed before, instructors are well versed in getting you up and riding while keeping sessions safe and fun. Four sessions across two days means skills have time to stick rather than feeling rushed in a single lesson.
Beginners work on catching white-water waves, falling safely, and board control. Improvers focus on paddling out, wave selection and building confidence in the line-up alongside peers of similar age and ability.
The 6:1 ratio means each young surfer gets regular feedback and plenty of waves across four sessions. Coaches know how to motivate teens and keep energy high without pushing anyone beyond what the ocean allows that day.
Camp is based at Baggy Lodge with heated changing and hot showers, a short walk from Croyde Bay. We are the only purpose-built surf academy in the village, with secure lockers and hundreds of junior wetsuits and Softech boards sized for younger surfers.
Parents can drop off at the centre each morning; Croyde village has cafes and shops nearby if you are staying locally. Accommodation is not included in the camp fee, but many families camp or rent nearby for the weekend.
Ages 12-17, able to swim 50 metres and take part in active water sessions. No prior surfing is required for beginners; improvers should already be comfortable in the whitewater.
Let us know when you enquire about experience level so we place you in the right coaching group. Mention any additional needs or nerves so coaches can welcome your young surfer confidently on day one.
Being featured in The BBC, Vogue, The Independent, Airbnb, Carve Magazine, and Surfing England, alongside 5-star TripAdvisor reviews, is something we are very proud of.
Surf Development UK talent pathways run through our school, so junior camps reflect the same coaching quality used with Team GB development surfers, delivered by ISA-qualified beach-lifeguard coaches who specialise in working with young people in the sea.
This two-day camp gives young surfers aged 12 to 17 four coached sessions on Croyde Bay with ocean safety, video feedback, and the same six-to-one ratio as our adult programmes.
Beginners work on whitewater skills while improvers focus on paddling out, wave selection, and building confidence in the line-up with peers of similar age.
The camp is for ages 12 to 17. Younger children can join family private lessons from age five, or our Grom camp for different age bands when dates are available.
Everyone must swim 50 metres and be comfortable in the sea with a wetsuit and buoyancy from the board.
All equipment is included: surfboard, wetsuit, boots, gloves, and hood when needed, plus four coached sessions across two days and use of heated changing and hot showers.
Accommodation, meals, transport to Baggy Lodge, and personal insurance are not included in the camp fee.
No prior experience is required for beginners. Improvers should already be comfortable in whitewater and keen to progress towards green waves.
Coaches place surfers in ability-matched groups within the six-to-one cap so everyone surfs at a challenging but achievable level.
Groups never exceed six surfers per instructor. That ratio is the smallest for a Surfing England Centre of Excellence in Croyde.
Coaches know each young surfer by name quickly and give regular feedback between waves across four sessions.
Accommodation is not included. Many families camp or stay locally in Croyde and Braunton for the weekend.
Drop-off is at Baggy Lodge on Moor Lane each morning. We can suggest family-friendly places to stay when you enquire.
Pack swimwear, a towel, warm layers, sun cream, a water bottle, and packed lunch or snacks unless your confirmation says otherwise.
Label personal items where possible. Lockers are available at the centre for phones and valuables during sessions.
Yes. Heated changing areas and hot showers are on site at Baggy Lodge, which helps young surfers warm up quickly between sessions.
Separate gender changing makes it easier for parents and teens to get in and out of wetsuits comfortably.
Lessons still run in most conditions, with coaches choosing safer beach zones when swell or wind is strong. Sessions may shift time for better waves.
Video review and land coaching continue when the ocean is unsuitable, so campers still leave with clear practice points.

You will find us in the heart of Croyde Bay, steps from one of the UK's most reliable beach breaks. We run surf lessons, coasteering, weekend surf camps, instructor training, equipment hire, and sea sauna sessions from our purpose-built centre on Moor Lane, with heated changing rooms, hot showers, and secure lockers so you can focus on the session.
Our coaches work at a six-to-one ratio on group lessons, hold beach lifeguard and Surfing England qualifications, and coach everyone from first-time surfers to national pathway athletes. Whether you join us for a single lesson, a private session, or a multi-day camp, we keep safety, progression, and time in the water at the centre of every experience.
