Join a two-day beginner and improver weekend camp with a six-to-one coach ratio at our Surfing England Centre of Excellence on Croyde Bay. Four coached sessions, video feedback, and ocean safety training give you room to progress beyond what a single lesson can offer.
Across the weekend you build from beach safety and whitewater skills towards catching waves with more control, with coached water time each day and video feedback between sessions. You check in at Baggy Lodge, kit up with wetsuit and board, hear the beach brief, then return for showers and a coached debrief after each surf.
Most new students stand in their first sessions, while improvers work on paddling, wave selection and etiquette in groups capped at six. Coaches split ability within the ratio so beginners and early improvers surf at a level that feels challenging but achievable across all four water sessions.
Based at our purpose-built centre on Moor Lane with heated changing rooms and hot showers, a short walk from Croyde Bay's consistent beach break. We are the only surf academy in the heart of the village, with secure lockers and hundreds of wetsuits so fitting a full group quickly is part of a smooth camp start.
The camp uses the same Softech boards and Tiki wetsuits as our daily lessons. After surfing you are minutes from Croyde's cafes and coastal paths; accommodation is not included but many guests stay locally for the weekend.
Open to adults 18+ who can swim 50 metres and take part in light physical activity. No prior surfing experience is required for beginners joining the camp, and improvers who have had a few lessons are equally welcome.
Accommodation is not included; bring lunch or snacks unless your confirmation says otherwise, and message us in chat if you need local stay suggestions or if you are between beginner and improver level.
Surf Development UK keeps our coaches at the forefront of technique, diet, video analysis and biomechanics, so your weekend camp reflects current surf lesson theory with ISA-qualified beach-lifeguard instructors.
You train at a Surfing England Centre of Excellence with the smallest groups in Croyde, heated changing, hot showers, and the same kit fleet as our daily lessons, so every session feels like part of a professional surf school rather than a one-off holiday taster.
Your camp fee covers all surf equipment: board, wetsuit, boots, gloves and hood when needed, plus four coached water sessions across two days. You also get video feedback and classroom debriefs between sessions.
Indoor changing rooms, hot showers, and secure lockers at Baggy Lodge are included. Meals, accommodation, and transport to the meeting point are not part of the camp price.
The camp is designed for adults who are new to surfing or have only tried it a few times. Coaches place you in a group that matches your ability, from first whitewater waves through to early improver goals.
If you already paddle out confidently and ride green waves, our Progressor or Intermediate weekend camps may suit you better. Tell us your experience in chat and we will help you choose the right weekend camp.
This weekend camp is for adults aged 18 and over. Younger surfers can join our Junior or Grom weekend camps, which follow the same coaching standards with age-appropriate groups and pacing.
Everyone taking part must be able to swim at least 50 metres and be comfortable in the sea with buoyancy from a wetsuit.
We cap groups at six surfers per coach, the smallest ratio for a Surfing England Centre of Excellence in Croyde. That means more waves per person, quicker feedback, and closer safety supervision in the water.
Your coach will know your name by the end of the first session and can tailor tips as your confidence builds across the weekend.
Each day combines a coached surf session on Croyde Bay with land-based video review and goal setting. You check in at Baggy Lodge, kit up, walk to the beach for the safety brief, then return for showers and debriefs.
Exact start times are confirmed when your dates are agreed, as we may shift slightly for tides and wind so you get the best conditions for learning.
Accommodation is not included in the camp fee. Many guests stay in Croyde, Braunton, or nearby villages and travel to Baggy Lodge each morning.
Message us in chat if you would like suggestions for local B and Bs, campsites, and self-catering options; most are only a short drive or walk from the beach.
Bring swimwear for under your wetsuit, a towel, warm layers for before and after sessions, sun cream, and a reusable water bottle. Pack a packed lunch or snacks unless your booking confirmation states otherwise.
All surf hardware is provided. If you own a suit you love, you may bring it, but our store has hundreds of sizes to get you comfortable in the water.
You must be able to swim 50 metres and feel confident floating and moving in the sea with a wetsuit on. You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but comfort in open water helps you enjoy the camp.
Mention any medical conditions, injuries, or additional needs in chat so coaches can adapt sessions and keep you safe.
Yes. We are the only surf school in Croyde with hot showers on site, plus heated separate changing areas and free lockers for your valuables.
That makes a real difference across a full weekend in the Atlantic, when you want to warm up quickly between sessions.
Lessons still run in most conditions, and coaches choose the safest part of the beach or adjust the plan to match the swell. Very rarely we may move a session time to give you better waves.
Video analysis and land-based coaching continue when the ocean is unsuitable, so you still leave the weekend with clear goals and progress notes from your coach.

You will find us in the heart of Croyde Bay, steps from one of the UK's most reliable beach breaks. We run surf lessons, coasteering, weekend surf camps, instructor training, equipment hire, and sea sauna sessions from our purpose-built centre on Moor Lane, with heated changing rooms, hot showers, and secure lockers so you can focus on the session.
Our coaches work at a six-to-one ratio on group lessons, hold beach lifeguard and Surfing England qualifications, and coach everyone from first-time surfers to national pathway athletes. Whether you join us for a single lesson, a private session, or a multi-day camp, we keep safety, progression, and time in the water at the centre of every experience.
